Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of a problem with a Mossberg M44 22lr rifle. I had a scope mounted a while back and all was well for over a year. Then every fee times I would take it to the range I would have to adjust the scope up a few clicks and never thought anything of it until I finally ran out of adjustment. I tried cleaning really well, tightening everything, and remounting the scope with no change. I'm now at a loss and thought I would ask for some help.

Thanks,
Demos

What kind of scope was it? The lifespan of a low-end scope isn't very many rounds in some cases. Some are horrible out of the box. If it was $100 bucks or less.....a bad scope may very well be the issue. Optics are one area you certainly get what you pay for, at least to a certain price point

Well, the life of a low end scope on a .22 should be pretty darn good, provided you're not banging it around or anything. I put a cheap $9 Walmart scope on my first .22 rifle and it gave me perfect service for a long time...in fact, it lasted right up until somebody stole the rifle.

A cheap scope on a high powered rifle, however...THAT I can reasonably see being a problem. They take a lot of beating that they probably are not built for.

Hi guys,
I have a Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14x40 scope on it so I will be sad if that's the culprit.

Thanks,

When was the last time you cleaned the gun? What type/brand of ammo? Did you check the action screws? Seems odd it would keep shooting lower and lower. Do you have another scope you could throw on it for a test. The Weaver should hold up fine but could have gone south.

Perhaps globel warming causing the gravitational field to strengthen and thereby making the bullets heavier ?

Never mind - it's below zero here again, and I have brain freeze !

Put on another scope and see if the problem persists. If it does, its the mounts. If not, it was the scope.

I have a similar problem with an old Bushnell, every time I shoot it, it has drifted a small amount to the right. I should replace that someday...

Ford,
Clp and a pass with a bore snake after every trip to the range, and a complete cleaning after I maxed out the scope.
The surplus Remington 22lr the cmp sold, all the same lot.
I snugged up all the screws.
I'll toss cheap walmart scope back on and report back after my next trip to the range.

Thanks,
Demos
