Savage

My brother picked up a Savage model 60-something; it is semi-auto and came with a scope from on $99.99 at Gander Mountain. This thing rocks! In fact, this gun is a tack-driver at 50 yards!

Probably the Savage 64 series ^^^ I've been eyeing the Marlin 925r and Mark II-FV myself. Done a lot of research and I am convinced that the Savage is the way to go. The accutrigger makes all the difference. The FV has a heavy barrel but if you can handle it, it makes for better durability and even that much less recoil. You need a scope for the FV as it does not come equipped with iron sights.

What about this?

I have a Mark II preaccutrigger, heavy barrel, with no iron sight and a scope but I would like to learn to shoot with peep sights. Maybe I'll buy one.

All the 22's talked about above are great. Your question was about getting a 22 to practice shooting. I have an old Winchester Mod. 69. It has a 5 shot mag. and was made in the 1960's. It is the best rifle I have at 50 meters. Please try to find an old rifle, clean it and shoot it. Iron sights will make you a better shooter. :)
