My rehabilitation is going well....
As usual on Fridays, I headed to PGC to meet with the Geezer Squad, my friends who share an appreciation for shotguns and odd shotgun games.
I arrived a hair late and hurried to join them on the field, the shooting had already started.
We shot a round of Chinese as is our wont. This involves 5 shots taken from each of Skeet 1,2,6 and 7 posts. The targets are launched from a trap house and the angles and ranges vary greatly. The last 5 targets are taken from a point of the shooter's choosing BEHIND the 27 yard line.
It's customary to use the same chokes all the way through.
2 shots (Full use of the gun) is allowed.
After the signal, there may be a delay of up to 4 or 5 seconds before the launch.
And since we're all friends, heckling is not only allowed, but customary.
I apologized for my lateness. I shot in my turn and then Superreverb of this BB showed up even later. He had company, his son of maybe 9 years.
So the round progressed, and I found the Zone.
You know the Zone, I hope. It's where the targets are big and slow, the gun comes up like a well oiled machine, the shot happens as if guided by archangels and the targets explode like the Death Star in Star Wars.
Concentration is screwed down tight, tunnel vision occurs, and the condition cannot be repeated at will. Much as we'd like it to be.
And unlike any time before, I could talk in between shooting, relax, and then go right back to the Zone when I stepped up to the line.
I did drop two from the back fence, but there's only so much 7/8 oz of 7.5 shot and 23 POC of choke can do. For once, I can plead an equipment alibi.
23/25 is my personal best at Chinese. I did it once before.
Following that round, I shot a round of trap singles with a couple Geezers and Superreverb's young son, with SR coaching. The 28 gauge 870 with "Yute" stock now fits him OK.
I stuck with the bottom barrel of the B gun. As is my wont, I shot Low Gun, mounting for each shot. It's not the way most folks shoot trap, it's the way I do it.
The Zone was still there for me. The gun came up like it was on rails. The targets exploded in a most satisfying manner.
Ran them. I kissed my gun and racked it. After a minute or two, I noted my cane was just hanging off my vest where I had stuck it while shooting. I was grinning and walking without a limp.
Looks like I'm healed......
