My rehabilitation is going well....

As usual on Fridays, I headed to PGC to meet with the Geezer Squad, my friends who share an appreciation for shotguns and odd shotgun games.

I arrived a hair late and hurried to join them on the field, the shooting had already started.

We shot a round of Chinese as is our wont. This involves 5 shots taken from each of Skeet 1,2,6 and 7 posts. The targets are launched from a trap house and the angles and ranges vary greatly. The last 5 targets are taken from a point of the shooter's choosing BEHIND the 27 yard line.

It's customary to use the same chokes all the way through.

2 shots (Full use of the gun) is allowed.

After the signal, there may be a delay of up to 4 or 5 seconds before the launch.

And since we're all friends, heckling is not only allowed, but customary.

I apologized for my lateness. I shot in my turn and then Superreverb of this BB showed up even later. He had company, his son of maybe 9 years.

So the round progressed, and I found the Zone.

You know the Zone, I hope. It's where the targets are big and slow, the gun comes up like a well oiled machine, the shot happens as if guided by archangels and the targets explode like the Death Star in Star Wars.

Concentration is screwed down tight, tunnel vision occurs, and the condition cannot be repeated at will. Much as we'd like it to be.

And unlike any time before, I could talk in between shooting, relax, and then go right back to the Zone when I stepped up to the line.

I did drop two from the back fence, but there's only so much 7/8 oz of 7.5 shot and 23 POC of choke can do. For once, I can plead an equipment alibi.

23/25 is my personal best at Chinese. I did it once before.

Following that round, I shot a round of trap singles with a couple Geezers and Superreverb's young son, with SR coaching. The 28 gauge 870 with "Yute" stock now fits him OK.

I stuck with the bottom barrel of the B gun. As is my wont, I shot Low Gun, mounting for each shot. It's not the way most folks shoot trap, it's the way I do it.

The Zone was still there for me. The gun came up like it was on rails. The targets exploded in a most satisfying manner.

Ran them. I kissed my gun and racked it. After a minute or two, I noted my cane was just hanging off my vest where I had stuck it while shooting. I was grinning and walking without a limp.

Looks like I'm healed......

Actually, Dave, you shot a 24/25 for the round of Chinese. The last bird you shot at (and missed, sadly) was your sixth shot from behind the 27-yard line (I was pulling and, yes, I was counting....).

Just an FYI ;)

BTW: After you left, I coached Will from Station Three at the 16-yard line. The pieces started coming together for him quickly (stance, mount, head position) and he shot 12/25. Not bad.... :D

Thanks, Folks.

If you're sure, Ed, I'll go ahead and claim 24/25. Good to hear that your son, (nice kid BTW) is getting the idea.

An aside. If you do send that barrel to Jess Briley and his minions to work their magic thereon, ask about doing the forcing cone. If any shotgun needs to keep all the pellets possible in the pattern, it's the little 28 gauge and the tiny 410 bore.

RRN, go ahead on. You'll have a blast....

I'm turning a shade of green and I'm on land, so I must be jealous.
You guys had the weather gods in your favor? It was a beautiful day here on the island. Me, I was setting tile all day.
But I'm real glad you all had fun. And with a kid, for me that always adds to the enjoyment. It's just fun watching them learn.

Dave a big +1 for your hip.

Superreverb enjoy these times with your son now my friend mine is turning nineteen next month and it's real hard to get his attention unless it's his band a female or it's got wheels. Maybe not even in that order.

Tweed and with a tube. Later you guys Tom

Thanks, Tom.

Weather was high 80s, a little less humid than usual. I know because I didn't have to wipe that much sweat before each post.

MD can be beastly this time of year...

Dave, you shot 24....

Not that I was counting..... You tied the best round I have ever seen. (Mike shot 24 the week before.) Actually, your shooting better after the hip fix than before! Probably due to the discomfort / distraction level etc. Can't wait for Friday! See you then!!!

Thanks, Dogbob. Can't wait either. Went today and shot a couple rounds of wobble.

You may be right, tube. Thanks...

And did you have fun?

I don't remember if we covered what wobble is on another thread. Five stand and crazy quail as I recall.
So Dave color me curious and if you is bored or looking to give your fingers a work out to go along with that old hip of your's by all means 'splain away. If you don't mind, Tom

Much fun, Tom.

Re wobble, imagine a trap launcher mounted on an oscillating plate that moves for each shot. Some are stratospheric bound high, some cut weeds and some are in between. It's very hard to predict what's coming. I don't even try.

Trap gives a total of something like 15 possible angles, wobble around 60.

Some wobble courses are set up with the shooting posts at different heights also. Not PGC, though.

HTH....

Sounds like you are healing up well, Dave.

Last time I broke 24/25 was when I tripped & fell carrying a partial box of those ferocious "Clays".... :neener:  :D

That's what my PT said today. I've one more session Thurs before going back to work(Ptui!) Monday.

When done with friends,Tom, it's as much fun as we can have fully dressed. Great practice, too. The uncertainty of the presentation helps keep concentration up where it's needed to be.
