It was in the 90s and hazy today, but the stalwarts of the Geezer League met today to shoot. First the bull of course, then some Mongolian Wobble.

As you may or may not know, Mongolian Wobble is shot using Chinese trap rules and a wobble trap.

Shots are taken from skeet positions 1,2,6,7, and the last 5 shots from behind the 27 yard line at any spot the shooter chooses.

Full use of the gun is encouraged. That means one can miss up to 3 times with a repeater at a single target.

A delay following the call is possible, up to 5 seconds or so.

And, when shooting with friends, a bit of good natured heckling.

Keeping score is optional.

The Geezers tend to good shotguns.

Al used one of his Model 21s.

Doug K also had a 21, practicing for a Columbiare shoot with it tomorrow.

Superreverb had his old 870TB.

I had the B gun, which is closing in on 6K rounds and doing well.

And a shooter who isn't a Geezer but was known to us joined in.Tim's a lobbyist, mentioned here before. He used a Purdey SLE Pigeon gun with vent rib, choke tubes, and mighty pretty wood.

It's his duck gun, sayeth he.

I'd like to see whatever shotgun he owns that he won't drag into the marsh....

And a friend of his who used a high rib trap O/U. Neither had shot Mongolian before.

Shots are a mix of quartering angles and crossers at not quite 90 degrees. Height can vary from daisycutters to archangels. Range can vary from 25 yards to 50 plus for the last 5, so chokes are very much a personal choice.

So the fun commenced. We took our turns and our lumps.

Thee low shots got everyone. One was close to a true crosser and not more than a foot higher than the trap house roof. With lots of shotguns set up for climbing shots, this had all of us cussing a bit.

With gravity affecting the high shots and slowing them down but not doing as much to the low shots, speeds varied more than we usually see,

Even for us, veteran shooters all, typical scores on a post were 3/5. Few posts were cleaned.

It's a bit like 5 stand, but faster. Good practice, and as much fun as we could have fully dressed.

Go Mongolian if your range routine is getting a bit too routine.....
