I've been working on a load for 240 gr coated lead SWC for my new Redhawk 44 mag with 5.5" barrel.
Been using BE-86 and Herco with good results from both.
With my old eyes and open sights I was happy to get 3" groups at about 15 yards.
With the BE-86, I settled on 11.3 grs, which gave me about 1205 FPS ave. I was surprised it was that high.
With Herco I settled on 10.0 grs, which gave me about 1120 FPS, again I was a bit surprised by the high velocity.
Recoil from both was pleasant. I just thought I would pass this along in case it may be useful to anyone.
On the outing to test, I shot around 50 of these loads, when I got home I saw what I thought was leading in the barrel. Now I'm not sure it was lead because it cleaned up so easily. Just a few strokes from a nylon brush and Hoppe's 9 and it was gone.
