2400 vs Unique?

Universal feeds so much better, as well.

Universal seems to be close in many ways. I am doing an exploration with ramshot silhouette. It's a great powder as well.

2400 for Magnum loads for me too.

So I keep a keg of 2400 on hand, and any time I want more than 950 fps or so, I put away the Unique.

What a novel thought!

Raising combustion temperatures and pressures will result in "cleaner" burning. I don't want higher pressures or higher temperatures, so after shooting, I clean my guns.

Universal feeds

Come to find out it's also a single base powder. This is of particular intrest to me as it should lower flame front temperature and decrease throat erosion in guns I dont care to damage.... now on the hunt.

I have never used Unique only because Universal was what was available when I started reloading and just have never felt the need to try something else. I use it for all of my non-magnum loads….9mm, .45acp, .38spl, light to medium .357mag, 44mag and .454Casull loads. I am very happy with Universal.

I loaded about 500 rounds this weekend, spread between 41 mag, 44 mag and 45LC. 2400 in all. I guess I have no reason to be looking over the fence and wondering, I've had great performance at the range from my 2400 loads. It meters great. I use it on 4 calibers that I shoot frequently.

This was me in search of an answer to a non-existent problem.

Just a bit of trivia, way back when the can of 2400 was marked 2400 Rifle Powder or 2400 Smokeless Rifle Powder.
The can of Unique was marked Unique Smokeless Pistol Shotgun Powder.
Most cans of both also had the Hercules name on them too.
Of course there were differences in the discrimination at different times in their history.

That right there should tell you something about the differences in powder speed.

2400 in 45 Colt depends on the gun. None of my cowboy guns would get such a load.
