Has anyone here worked with any extra-light or cast loads in any of these chamberings? Looking for a cast grouse/bunny grade loads, and yard plinking level with very low noise, and maybe a 1500-ish fps level load, that one could be either cast or jacketed.

Cast with gas checks 100 grainers run 1500ish out of a .243. They start just under out of a 6mm. And a tick over (1700 plus) out of a .25-06.
None of 'em are going to be "yard plinking level with very low noise" at 1500 plus though. Blow a wee bird or rabbit into neck week without a head shot only too. Cast bullets tend to expand a lot more than one would expect.
Air guns legal for hunting where you are?

Thanks for the comment, I'm not quite following though. There isnt any lower limit I'm aware of on what they can be run at, other than eventually sticking them in the barrel if too low. I use .310 round balls with 3 grs Unique in the 30-30 for nice, low end loads, and use 115 gr cast bullets at about 1200 fps for a "medium" type load. I'm just looking for similar type loads for the calibers mentioned, or if anyone has had better results from any of them than the others. I've also loaded 1500-1600-ish fps jacketed bullet loads for 338 that were ok for closer range small game hunting or finishing shots, though a bit more power than I really wanted for grouse. Similar velocity jacketed loads in the calibers mentioned above would have some untility, though not as cheap to shoot and as quiet as lighter cast loads.

I'm not really an air gun fan, and that sort of contradicts the idea if having a high power rifle and being able to use extra-light loads as desired, while still having a true rifle in hand if range or power were wanted for whatevewr reason. I mthink its more fun also, to use extra-light loads than using an air gun.

Years ago I loaded the Speer 60gr FMJ using the reduced data in their manual for my 243. The object was a light load that hit close to the same POI as my regular load for picking off similar critters. I have to say it was a hoot to use, not overly loud, but a bit more than a .22 might be. It worked well for a dozen or so fox squirrels I had making a mess out of my feeders, but for a coyote you had to go for the head or track them further than I felt was reasonable.

For the cast loads you might do a search for C.E.Harris articles. He has been there done that with cast loads for many rifles and handguns. If you can't find something in his writings your probably not going too.

Good leads, thanks!

I didnt know Speer made a 60 gr 6mm bullet.

The largest thing I'd likely use the extra-light loads on would be a skunk at pretty close range.
