What is the question?

Is the .243 a 6mm? Yes.
Is the .243 WIn. and .244/6mm Rem the same cartridge? No.
Which one is better? Open to debate, depending on if you hunt deer or varmints, handload, or not, and several other things.

Kind of like 7.62 or .308, same length/diameter measurement different unit of measure.

Depends on if you're only talking about the bullet or the whole cartridge.

The bullets are the same, the cartridges, like rcmodel said, are definitely NOT interchangeable.

I knew what you meant Birdhunter, but I was scared someone else might confuse that as meaning the cartridges are interchangeable.

I would say more like the dif between a Savage hi power, and a 6x47. or maybe a 6 xc, and a 6ppc. okay then a 375, and a 375 h/h mag.
seriously, a 6mm is better than a 243, in many ways, but there are few factory loadings, for both rifles, and carts, for the 6mm. But damn, it is smokin!!!!

"...Kind of like 7.62 or .308..." Not even close. Those are the same thing.
More like the .30-06 vs the .308? Yep. The 6mm Remington's slightly longer case gives a bit more velocity with like bullet weights. About 100 fps. However, the 6mm Rem is not as readily available. .243 ammo is everywhere.
Doesn't matter if you're hunting deer or varmints. The bullet diameter is the same. What is important is that 6mm/.243" bullets come in different constructions. Varmint bullets and deer sized game bullets. Most varmint bullets, that are not suitable for deer sized game, usually weigh less than 80 grains. Over 85 grains usually are. Varmint bullets are made to expand rapidly upon impact. Deer sized game bullets penetrate while expanding.
Mind you, the rifling twist matters too. 80 grains and up will shoot better with a fast twist. 1 in 10 or faster. Not a big deal though. Very few commercial rifles are rifled for light bullets. That doesn't mean they won't shoot light bullets well. The construction of the bullet is more important.
"...a Savage hi power, and a 6x47. or maybe a 6 xc, and a 6ppc..." None of which are commercially loaded or readily available.

I bought a Tikka 243 Winchester because they do not chamber the Tikka in the 6mm Remington.

If I had to choose between the two I would take the 6mm. In fact I did and am very happy I did. 55 grain ballistic tips are smokin when they leave the barrel. :)
