243 - Hornady 95 gn SST

Has any one got load data on the Hornady 95 gain SST for 243 Winchester? Wanting to try out some loads for my son but can't find load data on this bullet. Thanks for any info.

That's the only bullet I use in my 243. Don't know how it does so well, but the way it kills deer is unbelievable. I use H-4350. Start with that. Good luck!

Thanks Strongbad, Can you tell me the grain load and what primer you use. I agree with you on the killing power of the SST. I use the 150 SST in my 06 charged with IMR-4064and it is an awsome bullet on deer. I just can't find any data on the 243 with this bullet. Any pointers on where to gather data.I'm a newdie on reloading and need a recipe.Ha!

You can use any 95 gr load data as a starting point and work up. The manual max loads aren`t cut in stone anyway, and you are basicly doing the same following it.
Hornady I believe offers data to those who call or e-mail for it with their newer bullet styles. I`d contact them if you want specific data, and see what they offer.

I just worked up a 243 load with H4350 and 100 gr bullet, 45 gr was a hot load. I could get 10 loadings from the brass, but the primer pocket did not feel tight.

43 gr was a load with long brass life and 3,000 fps.

I would caution you that the Hodgden.com site lists 42gr. of H4350 as the max load for the 95gr. Nosler Partition listed. Ol` Joe has the best advice, contact Hornady. The SST is getting a good reputation.

Ricky, you'll want to work the load up in your rifle but I believe that it's right in the middle of the range for the 95 gr. bullet off of Hodgdon's website. I use Winchester brass mostly, but it's not brass picky. Typically I use Fed 210 primers, but I've used Winchester LR's and they shot the same.

Great info guys and thanks. OL' Joe, I did take your advice and contact Hornady. They avised me to use the same load data as the Hornady 100 grain bullet since the length of the two bullets were the same.Here is the tech qoute"Because of the length of the 95 gr bullet the load data was the same as
the 100 gr load data.
So you will be able to use the 100 gr load data for the 95 gr SST
bullet." Thanks again for all the help guys.

The 95g SST worked very well for my son last year. He dropped a nice buck in it's tracks and even put a doe down with a less than perfect hind quarter shot. The load was 42g of H4350. That little bullet does an incredible amount of damage. You'll often hear that a .243 is a marginal caliber that's OK if you practice careful shot placement. Well, careful shot placement is always important but from what I've seen it doesn't apply any more to a .243 using this bullet than it would to larger calibers.
