I always used imr-4895 100gr. spr.BTSP 100 yards three shot touching almost hole for hole. IMR-7828 didn't do as good.

IMR-7828 powder will work but it's real slow burning and the Max load is a compressed load.
Go to www.hodgdon.com and check it out.
You'll be hard pressed to better IMR4350 or H4350 but some of the new powders do look promising.
If you already have some IMR7828, it won't hurt to try it.

IMR 7828 43.5 gr. 3000 fps
IMR 7828 47.5 gr. 3250 fps
I am getting 3215 fps out of a Rem 700 22" barrel with 47.5 gr.

Yes it is ! The best I could get out of IMR 4831 was about 3035 fps ...Reloader 19 was in the same ball park ....until I tried IMR 7828....I had the same idea that most of you had ....7828 was too slow for 100gr 243 bullets.....WRONG! I also get good Velocity out of my 25/06 with 7828 too!
The 243 load is from Nosler # 3 Manual. I may have a fast Rifle also, I could not get that figure out of a Ruger S.S. 243 22" barrel.

I have had similar experiences with 7828 as what JimKirk has said. One of my .243's has a 24" barrel and I usually get 3270fps with 47grs of powder and the 100 BTSP's. However, it does not shoot nearly as well as 4895 does in any of my .243's where I can get under .5MOA with two of them.
I saw the current 7828 data at the Nosler website was cut to 45.5 grains for 100 grain Partitions. That velocity really is amazing for a 100 grain bullet in .243, esp for 22", as is Tango's 24" barrel results; simply amazing. My .243 is a heavy varmint rig, but if I used it for deer I would definitely look into 7828/100 grain bullets... Maybe I will do some open field sniping.

Shot a 140lb doe at 327 lasered yards with the load I posted above. Bullet impacted 3.5" below POA. Tiny entrance wound. Fist sized exit wound. Heart/Lungs were mush. Eight ribs broken. Deer dropped dead where she stood. I may cut this load back some as I see some of the most recent manuals list a lower maximum. I was unaware of the change untill this post.

I think you think I am yanking your chain, but I can get the full 3250 fps with a Nosler 95gr Ballistic tip with a 22" barrel. Like I said the gun may have a fast barrel. By the way I get about 1" groups @ 100yds with the 7828 ...I get slighty better with IMR 4831 maybe 3/4" - 7/8" either will kill deer very dead. If you use 100 gr Nosler partion, which I can't get to shoot any better than 1 1/2" groups, I think you would have a bigger deer killer.

I should post that this load shows no over pressure signs in my rifle, your rifle may be unsafe with this load and I did state that it was a published load in Nosler #3 Manual which had to be ok with Nosler lawyers at the time it was published, it may not be ok with Nolser or who ever makes IMR 7628 (NOW) lawyers. consult your own personal lawyer before using this load.

I've not used the IMR7828 in the .243. However, the RL22 gave excellent accuracy with the Nosler Max and most accurate load in the #4 manual. 42.5gr. I got over 3,100fps with both 95gr Nosler BT and 100gr Hornady BTSpt.
However, bullet performance on game is better when mv's are about 2,800-2,900fps..... Fewer close range "blow-ups".

If you have IMR 4350
I'd stick with it. That is the only powder I've used for 100gr bullets in .243.
This is from Saturday with my reloads (100gr Hornady SPBT, 40.0gr IMR-4350) in a LSA-55. A three shot group at .89 inches using a solid V support under the forearm and buttstock on my shoulder. I would really like to know what the rifle's capabilities would be with a lead sled as I am no precision shooter....
