I just bought a Rossi youth rifle in 243,without getting beat up, could some one tell me what cartridge would be good for white tail deer hunting, thanks folks:confused:

95 or 100. Many people speak highly of the Federal Fusion 95 grain.

The fastest whitetail kill I've ever witnessed was from the business end of a .243 shooting fusions.

Same here. My daughter shot a three point in 2014 with a BLR .243 using 95 gr Fusions. That deer went straight down without a twitch. When i dressed it out, it looked like a grenade had gone off in it's chest.

Corelokts, accurate, effective, good value.

100 grain Corelokts.

That's good advice also. I shot a doe with that round once, she jumped straight up, did a complete backwards 360 degrees in the air, with her feet pointed straight up, then landed on her belly exactly where she started. Never seen anything like it, and hesitate to even tell the story for fear it will be deemed as made up. Having said that, I now prefer to shoot deer with bullets of 165 or 180 grains.

95gr Hornady SST is deadly from my guns. I love the 243 and have never been let down by the SST bullet.

I've taken more than 50 with 100 grain Remington core-lokts and hand loaded Sierra spitzers in .243.

winchester

Welcome to the 243 club! I'm a big fan of this caliber for deer. My gun is a remington 700 I got from wal mart years ago. I use 100 grain winchester power points, also available at wally world. My rifle groups very nice with these rounds (about 1.5" at 100 yards), so I stuck with them. Turns out they do a fine job of putting down the deer too- haven't got one past 200 yards though (yet), but I never had one run more than 50 yards and leaking like a faucet the whole way. I never bothered to try anything else. If I was you, I would try a couple different rounds and see what groups the best and stick with it. You may get lucky like me and find that your rifle likes the first thing you try.

Fusions get the nod for factory loads. I didn't have time to work up a load for my 243 so I bought 2 boxes of Fusions. Received the gun on Wednesday, scoped it on Thursday, sighted in on Friday and killed 2 deer on Saturday. I have taken 10 more since then and still have ammo left. One of these days I will work up a load, but if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

I can tell you of my experience; Place that bullet right and nothing in North American Continent is gonna be much of a problem. I use a Rem ADL 700 in 243w and made a great living, for years hunting with it. Use 100 grn corlocks exclusively. Good, consistent ammo right there, good terminal effects too.

Lost it in a boat accident, and I still miss that rifle.....

80gr. My Son 11 at the time shot a 260lb Whitetail here in Oklahoma, went about 40 yards.
