Can .25-06 brass be reformed into .30-06 by simply running it through a .30-06 sizer die?

I picked up several pieces the other day at the range and thought I might try and use them for plinking loads if this can easily be done. If not, it's no big deal, I will just throw them in the "save this brass because you might own one someday" can.

You'd likely have to size it up to 7mm first.

I wouldn't recommend making that big of a jump though as the necks will be awful thin.....

If you only have a few cases, toss them.

It's not worth the risk of having 25-06 marked cases laying around loaded with .30 cal bullets. At some point in time, someone may think they are what they say they are.

If you simply must do it, I agree you will have to expand them to an intermediate caliber like 7mm. Doubtful if a .308" expander plug will go in a .25 cal case in one step without collapsing the shoulder.

I agree with all of the above. If you must go in stages but for only a few pieces it's really not worth it IMO. Like said above they just might find their way into a 25-06 chamber.

Welcome to the forum...

I would say it is really not worth the effort as 30-06 brass is plentiful.

But if you must, Sinclair International markets a line of tapered expander balls that makes the process easier on you and the brass. As others have said, you would probably need to go in two or three steps.

What is your location and how much .25.06 do you have? I'm a .25-06 shooter with plenty of .30-06 brass on-hand.

The real problem is unless you have sufficient quantities to off set the cost of postage, we will have to be close enough for a FTF trade.

PS I do not recommend up sizing to .30-06. As someone mentioned, the necks will be thin. When you re-size .30-06 to .25-06 you have to trim aggressively. All that metal comes from the neck. If we can not work out a trade, try for a local trade. .25-06 shooters tend to be dedicated to the caliber, you either hate it or love it.

Thanks for all the info. I will not worry about messing with the .25-06 brass. It is only a dozen cases so it's not enough to fool with. I thought that if it were a quick easy process to reform then I might as well try.
