I have used the search engine, and have only come up with bits and pieces, and references to "rcmodel" having formed a gazillion 30 06 to 25 06 and "flashole" doing the same.

I am asking for assistance in the actual process. Is it simply all neck trimming and then a resize? Or is it done in stages?

I have access to LOT of 30 06 brass, and would like to turn it into 25 06 brass to reload for my newly acquired 25 06.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Simple .... lube and run into the 25/06 die... trim as usual. I have used a lot of 30/06 cases, but I'd rather have my cases marked for the caliber they "are". It is rather easy to find 25/06 now days, back when I did the remake, they were much harder to find. Sell the 30/06 and purchase 25/06.

I like to use the HXP headstamp brass because there is no specific cartridge identifier on the headstamp. It just says HXP and the year of manufacture like 64 ... 71 ...etc. When it is resized it just goes into a appropriate ammo case with a note stating what the load is.

Four things - 1) anneal the neck and shoulder area before running it into the FL size die (using lube of course, nothing beats Imperial Die Sizing Wax), 2) trim to length after the reform, 3) it may be necessary to neck turn the reformed case, this is entirely dependent on your guns chamber. Load a dummy and see if it chambers in your gun. 4) you can use the reformed reload just like a standard FL sized load and you should get good accuracy even though they have not been fire-formed. Fire forming will fill out the shoulder area and get rid of the indentation. You can neck size after the fire forming if you like.

If you're using once fired brass ... I see no need to anneal as the brass is still rather soft... but it will not hurt the brass... if you do it right.

I never had to turn my reformed brass... I may have been lucky ... I used mostly LC'68 Match and Remington 30/06 to reform into my 25/06... but now I just use commerical 25/06. Use your calipers after seating a bullet or use a tubing micrometer to measure the thickness.

Trim to length after sizing.

Going from .30 to .25 can be done in a single step but it helps to do it in stages. If you have or can borrow a .270 FL it will make the change easier and you will lose fewer cases.

I prefer necked down cases to "factory", it makes the fit in the chamber a bit less sloppy.

Thank you all for the info. I like the annealing idea. I also reload for a .270 so I have the FL die and that will be used. The 30 06 brass is all from the military. I think I will enjoy this endeavor.
