25-20 Marlin

I have not been on this thread for awhile. I have a Marlin 1894 in 25-20. I am reloading for it. I am putting 20 gr (by weight) Goex fffg black powder under a 75 gr JFP. I am also loading 11 gr 4198 under the same bullet.

Does anyone else load this cartridge?

What are your favorite loads.

I thought you weren't supposed to load Black Powder under Jacketed bullets. At least I've never heard of it.

I load 25-20 WCF using 2400 powder.

Hornady 60 grain gets 9.5 grains.
Rem or Win 86 grain gets 8.0.

Thank you I'll try that. I loaded Swiss fffg under the JFP. I had to clean the gun 4 times to get the crap out of the Marlin. The BP felt snortier than the smokeless but I think the smokeless was less accurate.

I need to do much more testing.

Speer 75 gn jsp over 12.0 grains imr-4198 or 1680, fed 205 primer. bout 1860 fps from Marlin 25-20, very good accuracy.

Lee dies, so the cases aren't oiver sized.

Can't help ya with the load. But I can help you unload.............that rifle. Lemme know if you ever wanna sell. I've been casually after a Marlin .25-20 for some time. Just not at GA or GB prices.

Speer 75gr JSP over 8.5 gr H110, CCI 400 yields muzzle vel 1500fps and 1240fps @ 100yds with drop from bore C/L of 8.7" fired from my WIN mod 1892 (mfg 1919). BP under Jacketed bullets not recommended.

I load Remington 25-20 brass
rem. 6 1/2 primer
86grs rem. bullet and use 11.0grs h4198
this works good for me.
This is shot out of a winchester model 53,old but very accurate.
