25-35 data for 15" TC?

I am gearing up for a new TC barrel....25-35 15" custom shop and was hoping for some help on good powders to use for it.

I will be using mostly reformed 30-30 brass and jacketed bullets at first. Powder usage will be mostly with 4198, 5744 perhaps, and some 3031 if I can remember to get a can or two of it. Once I get a jacketed load nailed down, I will jump onto the CB's with some Unique and blue-dot loads.

Now here is where the hard part begins...what is the upper limit to this cartridge in a relatively stronger case than it was originally chambered for? I don't expect a 25-06, but heck I am pretty sure that I can get fairly close to the factory specs on the old 117 gr. sp...it shows at 2230 fps and 1292 ft lbs energy at the muzzle. I am not looking for a hot-rod, mind you. Besides, if it turns out that the cartridge can only give me about 2200 fps with the 117, that will be fine, too. I can always play with it until I am ready for somthing diffrent and get it re-chambered for the 25-35 AI.

25-35 Loading

I have loaded the 25-35 for about 15 years, including a 10" Contender and a rebarreled 94AE. 25-35 brass is still available from Winchester, although it is only run once a year or so. Midway, Natchez, Graffs or Midsouth have it from time to time. After you try to resize 30-30 down to 25-35 you will soon lose interest in that. Way too much effort to be worthwhile.

In your 15" barrel you can use most any data published for the 25-35. 21 gr of 3031 and a Hornday 117 rn is a good starting point.

In the TC you can use any of the spire point 100 grain bullets with the 117 load data you will find.

25-35 load data is out there, just search the major powder companies and other normal places you look for data, it will be there.

Want to add...changed my mind...for 10 bucks more I am getting the 16.25 so I can set it up as a carbine or pistol.
