Howdy folks,
I have a remington 722 in 257 roberts. Has anyone tried plus p ammo in these.
Seems to me it should work fine. Any suggestions?

It'll work okay. Don't fret. The .257 Rbts was the cat's meow when it came out before WWII. They are fine varmit rifles and great deer rifles too. You can load a 105 grain bullet, an 87 or a 75. The Nosler Partition makes it an elk rifle. They are also sweet shooters.

Those 722's are plenty strong. Btw: the 257 Akley Improved works well and all you have to do is to fire a regular 257 in it to fire form the wildcat rounds. I think the improved round add's 300 fps which is a lot. Not that you really need to do it. The standard round is a good one.

Should be fine the 722, not much different from the 700.....LOL, i see Germster beat me to the post button :D

My dad had his 722 Bob sighted in 2" high at 100 yards with some original late 1950s vintage 117gr Remington Core Lockt. I bought a box of Federal 120gr +P and it shot 3" high.

No problem.
.257 Roberts +P is still lower pressure than other calibers on the same action like .243, .244, and .308, not to mention the .270 and magnums on the long action but otherwise similar 721.

There is more nonsense spouted about the .257 Roberts than about any other commercial caliber.

Don't worry which round is the hottest and fastest. You need to be concerned which round is the most accurate in your rifle.......chris3

I would NOT Ackley this particular rifle. My Dad did so with a 722 and his handloads were greatly hindered by the "short" magazine. Too, I'd think that if they're not already, this rifles will have some collectors value some day.

+1 Whelen
I'm a Roberts fan and an Ackley fan, but not in a 722 for the reasons stated.
I let my last good 722 Roberts get away and recently built a 257 Roberts on a short action Savage just to have a Roberts again.
