.260 or 6.5x55?

Well I have been searching the posts for scope recommendations. For now I moved an old Bushnell 3-9x from the Rem 742. That rifle is moving to the back of the gun safe and one of my sons will move up to the ABolt. I am open to scope advice. My old solution would have been a matte black Leopold VX2 3-9x purchased online like at optics planet. About a month ago, I saw some posts on clearance VX 3's. I would not mind a non-leopold and maybe just a tad more magnification than 3-9x. I have no trouble with Leopold, I am not sure it is the best value.

I will also look at different mounts regardless. The factory hardware is just ok.

Leupold is good warranty is great
Burris has some comparable scopes for less money but many claim their service is sub par
Bushnell elite series is great as well

I ownall 3 and don't have the need for very high price optics. To me they are all great. The leupold warranty gives me piece of mind, the Bushnell was easiest on my wallet, and the Burris is just a hair sharper to my eyes.

The models I am referring to are the leupold vx-1 , Bushnell elite 3500, and burris fullfield e1.

Eurooptic has Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40's on sale for $299. I've had one, and it had very nice optics for the price.

Those are GREAT scopes and well worth the money... I like mine better than my Leupolds!

I feel certain that it was a fluke, but the one I had lost zero (POI moved 2.5 in up). When I sent it in for warranty work, Zeiss said it was defective and sent me a Conquest HD5 2-10x42 ..... I'm sure they don't do that kind of swap all the time, but I can't complain about that deal at all. I would buy another in a heartbeat, and might do just that for my next rifle if they are still available.

I have .260's, 6.5CM's, and 6.5 Swede's....frankly, I can't tell the difference when shooting them. They all have killed game cleanly for me....they are all crazy accurate.

The Swede was the easiest to find an accurate handload for....but, its been around longer. They all have good brass available to anyone that is reading this online. If I could have only one, it would probably be the 6.5 CM.....but I wouldn't trade a PBJ sammich for the difference.

In the FWIW department, my 3-9x40 Conquest couldn't hold zero either, so I sent it in about a month ago; about a week later, sent me a brand new 3-9x42 Terra.

The Terras aren't considered to be as good as the Conquest.

Good pick on the swede. As a handloader, it'll give you tons of flexibility in bullet weights, lengths, and if you elect to load close to max will outperform the 260. I'd also say you got over the biggest hurdle that is finding a rifle you like chambered for it.
