.270 90 Gr. sierra varminter

Happy Earth Day, Does anybody reload for the good ol' .270 with sierra 90 grainers. I just got a box of these in the mail today and they are pretty small compared to my 160 gr. nosler partition's. They're just for fun and maybe some groundhogs.

It's impossible to tell just how accurate 90 grain bullets will be in your .270 but I'd be surprised if they give acceptable results. At one time I used both 100 and 110 grain hollow point bullets in my .270 for jackrabbits. It was good practice for mule deer. The most accurate were the 110 grain bullets. The 100 grain bullets were OK but not impressive.

I'm showing my age but I don't care. In 1962 my buddy and I got our first truly high power rifles at the age of 16. I bought a 1917 sporterized Enfield in 30'06 and he bought the same model in 270. We also started reloading, and his bullet of choice was the 90gr Sierra HP. He annihilated the woodchuck's with that bullet and it was extremely accurate. I saw him about 4 years ago and he still has that rifle and still uses that bullet. The powder that we started with has been long discontinued. Hercules Hi-Vel #2, about like today's IMR4895.

Try IMR 4350. Works great in one of my rifles.
I use 58.5 grains. Work up your load safely and see what you get.
Start 56 max 60.3.
