Can I clean my 6.5x55 (.264) rifle using a .270 bore brush? Would it be too big? I can't seem to find a .264 bore brush.

Might be kinda stiff but should work. I have hunted with several guys using .264 Winchester Magnums and they say the .270 brushes work better on the heavy powder fouling than the .264 bore brushes.

Just my .02,

Thanks. Do manufactures make their bore brushes slightly oversized so you get a tight fit to remove tough fouling? Or is it good practice to step up.

I know 12 ga shotguns, some people use 10 ga brushes etc.

Kleen-Bore lists bore brushes as:
A178 - .243/.25/6mm/6.5mm $2.90
A179 - .270/7mm $2.90

They don't even make a specific 6.5mm bore brush.

Yeh I had to use my .277 cal bore brush for my 6.5x55 for a while before I finally manged to find a 6.5mm brush at a gunshow. It is stiff as all getup but it works and I don't see any sign of it damaging anything.
