my Vanguard loves the Hornady 130 gr sst loads. but it shoots many others quite well also. i just like the accuracy & terminal performance of the sst best.

Thanks Guys

Doc:

Thanks for all the advice and if you were to come out with a caliber called 270 geek, if it were as accurate as 270 win or better and could take white tail down then put me down for a couple of boxes! haha, BTW that was a sweet set up you had, really like your 270 Rifle! And that pre 64 winchester 270 is on everyones dream list! I have decided to go with the Hornady 130 gr sst loads as my first box, and I also bought some Federal same 130 gr, I will see how they go. I have already bought ammo, sling, mounts, rings, and possibly going with the Nikon Prostaff scope, (hey for 150 bucks, hard to beat that value!) Only one problemo Fed Ex is not expecting my rifle to get here until the 11th! :banghead: I have been having withdrawels and I have not even had the rifle in my hands yet! BTW Shawnee Your a pretty cool dude in my book as well. Thanks again for everyone who gave there advice and suggestions on the caliber, I now feel 100% confident that I made a wise purchase for my First Browning Bolt Action and caliber as well. I can finally give my ol Wincehster 70 30 06 my dad gave me a rest.

My Remington .270 700BDL loves the less expensive core-lokt 130gr. On the other hand it hates the expensive hornady ammo. That's why it's good to try a bunch of different ammo.

Coltdude:

Hornady 130 SSTs. That's what I used for the handloads in that Vanguard in the picture. They are very accurate. Hopefully in the late deer season I will get a chance to see how well they perform. At the range, they performed very well.

Thanks Re: the Vanguard set-up. I have piccatiny rails on all of my centerfire hunting rifles. They do look pretty cool, and hold a true zero.

Doc, I will have to pick some of those up and try them out. My Rifle came in today and it felt like Christmas morning had already got here when I got there and opened up the big brown box and found the Pristine Browning Medallion inside. I have to say everything was true what people had told me about these rifles fit and finish is top notch quality and I see why you pay a little more for the browning because it sure shows it, now all is left to test is its nortorious accuracy that will be put to the test when I get the Nikon Prostaff I have picked out to mount on it. :D On the flip side my father in law just purchased one of the New mossburg rifles in the 243 with synthetic stock, he is not pleased with the rifle, reason I am not sure I shot it and it shots true already had a scope on it, he said he would let me have it for 200 dollars. So I might need to start a new thread about the New Mossburg Rifles, have not heard much about them. He had a trigger job on it and it feels like it is about a 3lb pull. But I was thinking heck for 200 bucks I could use it for a rainy day hunting gun?
