i recently aquired a crate of surplus ammo for a 270 and i have some shells marked factory "270 wcf remington umc" that dont chamber in my 270 win does any one know what the difference is in the two rounds.

Beats Me. They should interchange. Are yyou sure you don't have some handloads mixed in? Essex

You'll have to give us more info so we can help.

270 Win and 270 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) are the same thing.

Remington is the particular ammo manufacturer, and UMC is their product line. No problem there.

You will have to explain "surplus". As EHCRain 10 says, to the best of our knowledge the 270 Win cartridge was never used by a military, so it's not military surplus.

Are they reloads? One method of reloading is to resize the neck only, not the whole case. Neck sized ammunition fits the rifle in which they were previously fired, but may not fit your chamber. Full length resizing returns the case to a standard dimension that fits all rifles.

A previously fired case (if not properly trimmed) may have a stretched neck that hits the end of the chamber, and won't go any further. That may also be the source of your trouble.

And some of us load the bullet longer in the case, to get the bullet closer to the rifling for accurancy in long-range match shooting. But that must be done on a case-by-case basis because the start of the rifling differs from one rifle to the next.

Tell us more about the ammo and its source.
