laser rangefinder. I have a target stand that is 6 feet tall and two feet wide. I shoot at the same 6" dot at 300,400,and 500 yards. Use a tape measure to measure drop. Simple but effective. If you know the range, you know the drop. I sight in 1 1/2 high at 100 that put me 2 1/2 low at 300. Zero to 325 or so ......aim right at it.

Which optical piece to put on?

I agree that laser rangefinders seem to be the modern appropriate way to estimate distance for shooting.

Making the choice of a training rifle build was difficult, you all helped this far; I thank you for that.

I would be led to believe that such a rifle as the one described here requires a good optical sight in order to let its full potential be exploited.

Should that optical sighting equipment include distance reading?

Any particular model, precising mount or mount type if at all possible, which you would care to recommend?

The top accomplishments this scope would have to help perform would be a moose headshot at 555 yards  and 800 meters pleasant target shooting whenever possible.

Please remind that budget is a key factor in making those ideas become something real for me at some point in a not too distant future!
