Guys I just got me a .270win last week and I want to get reloading for it. What is some common known loads for it. It will be used for hunting deer and hogs. But also just shooting for fun every so often. I want to get just one load worked up for it and stay with that. But since I have little experiance with a 270 win Im asking you guys..

Im thinking about trying to have the Nosler 130gr ballistic tip and maybe some Varget powder since I use that in my 308s and 22-250s.

Thanks

Varget's a little fast for .270win, probably best with 130gr and lighter(start to lose over 100fps with heavier bullets).

I mostly use 54gr H4350 with 130gr and 57gr H4350 for 110gr bullets.

I like Jack's O'Conner's load: 60 grains of H4831 with a 130 projectile. If your rifle won't fire accurate groups with that load, either the rifle of the "trigger-puller" has a big problem. ;)

For one powder to use in all three of your weapons, H or IMR 4895 will do quite well. Nosler lists H4895 as the most accurate powder tested for 270-130gr.

Some 270 rifles get exceptional accuracy and velocity with RL-22 with 130gr bullet.

For hunting, I prefer the Hornady 140 BTSP with IMR4831 near max loads for 0.38" groups.

H4831 is a classic with 130s in the 270 Win, I prefer R22 with 130-150 gr bullets in mine. I would not bother with a faster powder then one of the 4350 or H414 with 130+ gr bullets. The 270 likes slower powders for best velocity and accuracy is normally very good with them too.

Thanks guys, this is what I was looking for. Looks like alot of recipes here to play with. Ideas is what I needed.

I've really had good luck with RL19 in 270. I load 130's, 140's, and 150's. RL19 has been great for accuracy and it burns relatively clean. H4831sc is a good powder for 270 too.

What rifle did you buy?

Like most rifles, mine get more accurate as the load approaches maximum, then suddenly the accuracy falls off. Just before the accuracy falls off is generally the best accuracy load. It's best for you to try that with your rifle and find it's own accuracy load, since all barrels have their own preferences.

IMR4350 is famously useful in the mid-range centerfire rifles. Just about any mid-burn-rate rifle powder will work. Try your Varget, it can't hurt to try. I use Speer HotCor to work up loads because it's cheaper, then switch to Nosler to fine tune the accuracy load.

My 270's always seem to work best with 130 grain. And they seem to like plain base rather than boat tail. 130g is absolutely great for deer and pig, and they aren't too expensive.

Best of luck, buddy.

45 grains of Varget with 130 grain Corelock make a great combo for one of my rifles. It runs right with H4895 for speed so it has more then enough power for whitetail or hogs or bigger. I don't use any of the fancy bullets since the old ones work just fine for me. So I'm not sure about your load of Varget with the Nosler bullet.
