OK so I swore I would never have an 870, since that ended when I bought the TC I've started looking at them more. I have a chance to get a not very heavily used 870 Express in 28ga with a fixed full choke barrel for $150. Is a 28ga everything people seem to think it is? And how well would a full choke perform with a 28ga?

I have one and like mine fine. The price is nice. If you decide you don't want it... As for performance, performance for what? How old is the gun? All the recent ones have modified chokes. If it's an older model I forsee the ability to turn it around quickly for $50 profit if you don't like it (I call it!). I see no downside!

Small gauges need a touch more choke than major ones to keep the pattern density up. The 28 is a superb choice when shots run less than 30 yards and the choke runs a little tight.

As with ANY shotgun with a fixed choke, patterns can be adjusted some by using a variety of shells. IE, skeet loads of soft 9s at 1300 FPS will generate a more open pattern than hard 7 1/2s at 1150.

And, the 28 doesn't know it's little. This would make a good trainer for those shotgunners of the future you and GWG are raising. In fact, you might have to pry it away from GWG....

Good price...
