2A window opens in Wisconsin

Well, Wisconsin elected a new republican governor and turned both halves of the legislature to republican representation in last night's election. Looks like concealed carry, here we come!!! Now there will be only one state left (directly to our south) that doesn't allow some form of concealed carry.

I would like to help out in anyway possible but don't really know where to start. Do we contact legislators? Whats the process? I'd be great for someone more experienced in something like this to post here and help less experienced and knowing individuals out with what we have to do to get concealed carry now that we can.

Just make sure you unload and encase before traveling through IL

Focus on all the ones that have just been elected and "call in the marker" for having pushed them over the top in the election.

These newly elected but not yet sworn politicians should be reminded by individual email and snail mail that this is one of the jobs they're expected to finish with their sitting colleagues as soon as they're sworn in. They need these reminders from each individual and from every RKBA organization. So, in addition to the individual effort to start them out on the proper path supporting RKBA everyone that can should join the state RKBA organization of their liking and help them help the new people make this a priority.

You shouldn't neglect the sitting officials. Look at everyone that supported or was neutral on RKBA and contact them individually and collectively as part of WI Carry and point out the sweeping change means that the people of Wisconsin expect them to have new legislation reaffirming the 2A across the board ready for their newly elected colleagues to vote on when they are sworn in.

The Wisconsin Concealed Carry Association is no longer in existence. I started it in 2001, we elected a board in 2007, and then dissolved it in 2008. Bill Schmitz was going to run the group, but I think he just had too much on his plate.

I hope one of the other groups will be able to utilize some of the friendships we made. Jordan Austin was Wisconsin's NRA/ILA lobbyist as of a year or so ago; I'm assuming he's still working Wisconsin.

John Hogan was Senator Zien's chief of staff. He's now the chairman of the Republican senate committee. He was a driving force behind the bill, and he should have some influence over members of the senate (seeing as how he helped get them elected). He'd be a good one to talk to.

Mike Bruhn at Representative Gunderson's office would be another one to talk to get an idea of what might be done.

I'm hoping that Nik Clark and the others at Wisconsin Carry have great success with this.

I think you all in WI should make a serious push for constitutional carry. If you can legally own a gun, you should be able to carry it. I know it sounds a little risky, but now is the time to go for it if there ever is going to be one.

Esquare, we almost got CCW passed once, even with a demcratic gov. We were one vote shy in the legislature to override the gov's veto. I'm guessing with a GOP gov. and both houses being republican, it's just a matter of crafting a bill and bringing it up in session. Thanks to all for your thoughts on how to begin that process.

Please keep in mind the point of the Activism forum is to find ACTIONABLE and RELEVANT items to work on to solve problems. I've deleted a few posts that were politics only. Those are not acceptable.

What is the PLAN going forward now that the election is over, that's what matters.

Seems far more people want to talk partisan politics than put any effort into coming up with a plan of action after a day so this is moving to AD for lack of constructive participation in the hopes that more discussion of how to get the 2A bolstered in WI will actually take place.

Good luck to all of you folks in the land of rediculous laws, aka WI, after 10 years of putting up with the craziness over trying to find a way to get a CCW and failing add to it being harrased for perfectly legal OC, I gave up and as Regean made famous... "Voted with my feet" and moved to Louisiana (where it doesn't snow etiher! )

BTW still haven't figured how a zoning ordinance can keep the tansfer of handguns out of the city limits of Madison.
