2nd Amendment and School... Good or Bad Mix?

Would it not be alright to wear a shirt that said "Right to Freedom of Press" with a picture of a printing press? What about a shirt that says "Right to Peacably Assemble" with a picture of a bunch of demonstrators?
Hmmm. It would be fun to have ten different t-shirts made up, one for each of the amendments in the Bill of Rights and then wear them in order for the next two weeks to see what would happen.

Bonus points for bringing a videocamera to document the whole thing.

Yay for sousveillance!

Get a letter from the vice principal in charge of discipline stating that you cannot wear any "gun clothing." Call the ACLU and tell them your civil rights are being violated by the school's policy. Show the ACLU the letter and a copy of the school's policy.

Sue them, sue them, sue them, sue them all! How dare those East Coast Eloi violate our rights!

Post a pic of you in the Hitler shirt in class.:D

Justin, how about a shirt depicting our new found rights in Larry v. Tejas! Yikes!:uhoh:

I have always wanted to do this. I looked in my school rule handbook and it says that any shirts pretaining to drugs or showing pics of drugs is not allowed but it doesn't say anything about guns. I guess this means my norml.org shirt is out :( But even if I did the only people that would know what it was would be smokers and not care but I would not take that chance.

I think I might wear this on the last week of highschool. That girl is hot

T-shirts with words (slogans) are less likely to cause emotional reactions by idiot administrators and more likely to be protected by the First Amendment than T-shirts with pictures, especially pictures of guns. The text of the Second Amendment would be great, as would Molon Labe. When you put images on shirts you take a chance on them being considered disruptive.

Yeah, that's true.

I need to do something special for school on Sept 14... hmm...

Any ideas? Can't wear a party hat, though. :D

Teacher: "What are you so happy about?"

Me: "The Assault Weapons Ban ends today!!!"

*akward silence*

It would be fine at my school, I think, (someone wore a shirt with an M1 on it last year, no one gave him any grief) don't know about yours. I'd say try it if you want, and if anything bad happens shoot (pun not intended) the NRA an email. :)

This is one of the most powerful and effective arguments for 2A rights I have seen. Thanks to our own Oleg Volk:

Use it to educate people, "Yes, the NAZIs introduced total gun control, why do you think they could get away with killing a whole race of people? There was no one left to stop them.

I absolutely love the idea of 10 shirts, one for each right. Make every other Tuesday 'weapons rights day.'

Do it my friend, now is the time to start a life of standing up and doing something when frought with adversity. To all those telling him to play it low key, shame on you!

I need to get to a t-shirt making store (ones that let you put designs or words on shirts) and get things like this:

Molon Labe (or in Greek)
BA/UU/R
Have you hugged your AK-47 today?
2nd Amendment. (People will ask about it if it's the only thing on the shirt)
Ask me about all your firearms purchases! (With a smiley face or something.)
Computer Trouble? Do What I do? (Bullet holes in pic of computer)

So many Ideas so little time.

The day you can't proudly wear a shirt advocating for a

ALL AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHT

in a public school is a day that Board of Ed needs to be slapped silly by a group of concerned parents.

collectivoLeftists:

Smoke 'em out, take 'em on, and don't quit until you've won.

It's sad, isn't it?

I'm gonna put some of those slogans on my World Geography folder, which she told us to decorate. And when they ask, I move in with the kill.

Fighting the good fight! :D

As a freshman, I have a bunch of stickers all over my folders pro-2a. The thing is, many of my teachers shoot, and I am ready to explain and debate my position to anybody who differs. If you really want to stand up, wear them with pride!:)

I teach in a private school.

I wear my HK Polo about once every 2 weeks. I wear one of my Molon Labe shirts once a week. At carpool and recess I either wear my HK, No Compromise hat or a Molon Labe shirt. I normally get asked how was my weekend by the kids I teach and I say I had a good time at the range. I've taken 8 teacher, 15 students, 18 parents to the range. Also have a Peace through Superior Firepower pin on my laynard since we went into Iraq.

Personally, I'd wear it and virtually dare them to tell me not to. Of course, I was just that kind of stubborn kid when I was in grade school.
:D

I wrote the follow on my World Geography folder:
"Molon Labe" (Both in Greek and English)
"BA/UU/R"
"2A" (2nd Amendment)
"AKM-RK" (AKM Roc Kor Custom, which is my WASR-10)
The actual words of the 2nd Amendment right in the middle.
And on the back:

"Have you hugged your AK-47 today? I know I have!"

Hope she notices.

I think you should go ahead and wear it. It's not vulgar, and doesn't advocate lawbreaking or violence. MP5 nailed it: gov't schools nowadays (I was "released" in '93) are all about producing docile, obidient citizens who never question what is told them by their leaders, or the media for that matter. Trust me, I wish I would have rocked the boat and made some waves when I had the chance, but I wasn't politically awake then. You never know, you just might plant a seed in someones mind, and it may save them from becoming a pc robot someday.

Does anyone know what Tinker v. Des Moines has to say about this?

I don't think that Tinker v. Des Moines is good law any more. IIRC, the rule is that you can ban something if it is creating a disruption at school and interfering with other students trying to get an education. You have to show an actual disruption, not just a potential disruption.

Wow, I am glad I didn't go to your school. My school (public) actually did a decent job, in terms of teaching me to think critically. It wasn't until I got to college that I was bombarded with liberal PC.

I wonder what our fore fathers would have to say about shirts that state support for a Constitutionally protected right being labeled "controversial" or "violence inducing"? :barf:

If you've got a pro-firearms shirt, wear it.

Yay! Now all I have to do is convince my parents to let me get the shirt(s)!

Oh, crap. :( My Mom's an anti and my Dad's not an open gun person, though he is all pro-gun. With that combination, gettin these shirts could be a task.

And I drew an AK-47 in Math today. When I was still working on it, some older kid thought he was funny and asked, "You drawing a Pod Racer or something?" (I look like a geek.)

I responded, joking, "Nah, Star Trek is better in my opinion." He laughed and said, "What a loser."

When I finished he exclaimed, "WHOAH! NICE AK-47!" Naturally everyone near us turned their heads.

"Yeah, it's based off mine."

"You have an AK-47? Oh, yeah you probably got it because the ban ended."

"No, I got it during the ban. That ban was crap."

"Well, don't kill me with that, man. I won't be messing with you again, man."

"Don't worry, it's locked up. Besides I don't want to kill you."

"Whatever, you psycho. What do you need an AK-47 for?"

"Cause it's cool."

Another kid chimed in, "Before you cause another Columbine, call me so I won't come in that day."

Then in Science I was finishing up the drawing and the guy who sits next to me (who tends to give me a serious hard time sometimes) said, "Why are you drawing a gun."

"It's an AK-47; it's based on mine."

"Whoah, you have a gun!?" I'm not messing with you anymore." He then scooted away from me saying, "Just stay away from me and I'll stay away from you."

Why do people have to fear me because of something I like? I love my gun so much and would never hurt anyone with it or without it. Damn all the anti-gun sentement going around, poisoning people's minds. :(

Another kid chimed in, "Before you cause another Columbine, call me so I won't come in that day."

I've had similiar things said to me a couple of times at work. Along the lines of " Let me know before you decide to go postal so I can take a vacation day that day."
I'm one of the better known "gun nuts" at work, which doesn't bother me because it usually only involves me fielding about 15 to 20 gun related questions a week. But every once in awhile you run into some imbecile with no ideas about guns floating around in their empty little heads except, "Guns kill people", "If you own guns you must want to kill people to", or something like the postal comment.
I'll usually try to enlighten them with some real information and discussion. But for the really hopeless ones I usually just tell them that " If you think that you matter enough to me that I would ruin my life and family just to kill your stupid butt, then you are highly mistaken."
