I have an old 870 Wingmaster marked TB-trap barrel. The receiver is circa 1960s. Would this be compatable with the "super magnum" chambered barrels?
Thanks

Probably not. There was a Standard receiver (2 3/4") and the Magnum receiver (3"). Now the Standard receiver is for both. I don't know what they did for the 3 1/2" mags. You can put a 3" chambered barrel on the old 2 3/4" receiver but the 3" shells are to long to work through the receiver.

I'm thinking the barrel will fit on the receiver. But you shouldn't use shells longer than what is marked on the receiver. I wouldn't do it even if it does fit. Lots of guys only look at the barrel and might try to shoot longer shells than the receiver will handle. Which is probably 2 3/4"on a 1960's gun.

I had a mid 60’s vintage 1100 and IIRC it would handle 3”, but I believe the receiver was different from the 2 3/4”

Your TB trap gun serial number has a "V" suffix that indicates a 2 3/4 inch receiver.

The 3 1/2 inch receiver has a "A" suffix.

You can mount the 3.5" barrel on that gun and fire 2.75" shells in it without any problems. As jmr40 says, you shouldn't leave it on there where someone else could fire a 3 or 3.5" shell in it.

I agree I wouldn't do it, better to buy the 870 supermag if you want to shoot 3 1/2in magnums!

That TB trap model Wingmaster is a very nice gun, why would you want to shoot those
super magnum shells out of it.

By the way the 3 1/2 inch shells operate at higher pressures than the standard 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells.
Check SAAMI

The barrel will fit, but the ejector will not eject 3-1/2" hulls. The 2-3/4" and 3" receivers on 870s and 1100s are identical except for the ejector and ejector spring on the 870s.
