Velocities of 357 Magnum rounds

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HI, ANYBODY HAVE AN IDEA OF THE VELOCITY OF THE NEXT ROUNDS FIRED FROM 3 INCHES BARREL REVOLVER?, ONLY FROM 3 INCHES.

*125 GRAIN WINCHESTER JACKETED SOFT POINT "WINCLEAN".
*158 GRAIN MAGTECH SEMIJACKETED SOFT POINT.
*158 GRAIN FEDERAL HYDRA-SHOK.
*158 GRAIN PMC SEMIJACKETED SOFT POINT.

ThanK YOU A LOT.

MY PRIMARY DEFENSIVE GUN.............. A TAURUS 3 INCHES 357 MAGNUM.

Velocity Varies...

...from gun to gun and, in revolvers, may even vary from chamber to chamber. While you're not likely to see much of a drop from a four-inch to a three-inch barrel, from what I've seen with a couple of students, I'd be pretty comfortable using the Speer 135 gr. short-barrel .357 Magnum load if I was not prepared to spend the money on Cor-Bon's DPX load.

Stephen Camp has some range results from three-inch Rugers on his website, here and here .

+1. I have the Speers loaded in my 3" SP101 that I carry daily and pulls HD duty from time to time. I shoot very accurately with the round, and trust it to do its part if I do mine.

In my 3" .357 Magnum I carry the same load as in my 4" and 5" guns.

Remington 125 Grain SJHP's, soon to be changed to Black Hills .357 Magnum 125 Grain JHP's.

I would change the load if I was carrying a J-Frame, but I don't shoot .357 Magnum out of anything less than a 3" Barrel.

Hey BikerRN...how 'bout a report out on your new Milt Sparks IWB holster. Ah...ammo is like dogs...everyone has their favorite. Me...I like the all copper Corbon DPX 125 grain myself. Something about those razor sharp edged petals that gives me a warm and fuzzy.

I looked at all of Stephen Camp's write-ups 357 Magnum test(very informative) and in one of the test he shows that there is more of a loss velocity between 2.5" & 3" than 3" & 4".

If anyone else know anyone else that has tested differences(velocity, penetration and expansion) between revolvers with barrel length of 2.5", 3" and 4", PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I would love to see more test between the different barrel lengths.

I have a S&W 66 w/ 3" barrel and I use 125grainers Golden Saber and DPX.
