I'd like to get an older blued 3" K-frame, either in .38 or .357. I see they were made in barrel lengths ranging from snubbie to 6", but I'm under the impression 3 inchers are relatively rare. I know, for instance, a 3" Model 19 is rare, and a 3" Model 65 seems more common (though it's stainless), but generally speaking, how rare are blued 3" K-frames? I've been keeping my eyes open at local pawn shops and gun stores, but only ever see snubbies, 4" & 6". Are older blued 3" K's rare enough that I'd probably end up buying one at an on-line auction if I wanted one? Are some 3" models more or less rare than others?

The only blued 3" K frame I've ever seen for sale locally was a PC13, which I bought on the spot. I've been looking for these for years at local shows and dealers.

According to SCSW the 3" bbl Model was only a regular catalog item from '84-'87, the 3" M19 is considered rare, and the 3" M13 was a regular catalog item from '74 to '97.

The fixed sight 3" K-frames are highly sought after though.

They are hard to find. I have three. Two Model 65's and a Model 13. I looked long and hard for the 13, btw. Both of my 65's are ex police guns.

Also, the 3" 64 is still offered by S&W, it's just listed under the LE side of the website & probably in the LE print catalog as well.

If anyone has seen a 3" 19 I would like to know.

I have 3" 13, 65, and 66, but have never seen a 3 inch 19, or talked to someone who has.

(I got my 13 and 65's for $275 and $340 respectively, within the last year. They are rare, but if you want one they are out there.)
