3 Questions on KT PF-9

3 quick questions.


I was looking at picking up a KT PF9 for Home Defense and wanted to hear some feedback as how this would serve as a home defense gun with a laser/light combo. I have 3 simple Questions.

1. Is the KT PF-9 a decent choice for Home Defense, is it reliable enough??
2. Is the 9mm an adaquete round for home defense??
3. Is there a specific Laser/Light combo that would fit this gun well???

The PF9 wasn't designed as a HD firearm, but mainly for CC/BUG work. It's extremely thin, like a credit card.

You can do a lot better for HD.

If you like it, its better than nothing for HD.

Id certainly feel better with even my KT p3at sitting at home than nothing. And yes it is reliable enough.

PF9 has been my CC for the last year or so. Proper technique is very important with this little Kel-Tec. If I were just waking up and only had it to reach for instead of an XD45, I do not think I would sleep as well.

There are at least 3 lasers for it, which, a quick search will reveal.
The RSS seems interesting but its wider than the frame. Check out KTOG.org. Many threads on lasers can be found there. I do not recall discussion on lights though.

While I would consider the PF9 adequate, there are better choices. That weapon was designed with concealed carry as it's purpose, and it's diminutive size and weight make it far more difficult to control than a larger handgun. Since weight and bulk aren't really a concern for and HD gun, I'd look at something a bit bigger.

• For home defense, I prefer a larger firearm like a shotgun and large pistol. A larger/heavier pistol will recoil less than this little booger does. The PF-9 is better than having nothing at all, and is a great concealed carry piece.
  
• While 9mm is definitely adequate for home defense, the larger bullets make larger holes in bad guys and larger holes tend to leak larger amounts of blood. I'm not trying to be gruesome here, this is just part of the logic behind larger projectiles. I prefer 45acp, but 9mm is a very fine man-stopper.
  
• There are many, many laster/light combos, and several will be designed specifically for this gun.

I would go with the P11 personally. The PF 9 is basically just a lighter slimmer version of the P11. The P11 holds 3 more rounds and fills your hand much better than the pf9 ( and you need all the help you can get with keeping these guns under control, as trigger pull is long and recoil is heavy). I own both a pf9 and a p11 , have about a thousand rounds through each and have never really had a problem with either, unless of course I let a friend shoot one who has never shot it before (they will jam on occassion if limpwristed).
