Can anyone point me in the direction of a good low-cost best quality brand of 30.06? I'm looking for rounds in the 150 to 165 grain range.

The best deal around here in .30-06 is Greek surplus from J&G Sales for ~$240/1k, 147gr FMJ.

Dannavyret--Somebody is going to say it; might as well be me. Wanting high-quality ammo AND wanting to save money are 2 excellent reasons for getting into reloading. You can start with a Lee Loader kit for less than $25; that and a can of powder, box of bullets and 100 primers and you are on your way.

Kit amortizes itself in about 5 boxes of ammo, IIRC; from there on you are money ahead. And what you produce will beat for accuracy, the cheap ammo you can buy.

However, there is one caution--FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!! CAREFULLY!! If you are the type "who don't need no stinkin' directions" mebbe you had just better forget this and get that surplus J&G ammo.

Anyhow, good luck on your search. Ammo has been going up in cost for some time; no end in sight.

If you want to go through getting set up with them, the Civilian Marksmanship Program also sells that Greek ammo a little cheaper.

It depends on what you are doing with it. If you can use FMJ for your application (target shooting), go with the CMP. If you are needing soft or hollow points, I have had good luck with the Wolf Gold (Prvi Partizan) ammo.

However, for best quality at the lowest cost, get into reloading.

Federal Power Shok 150 grain. Just bought a couple of boxes at Cabelas for $8.99 ea. Sorry, my mistake that was 30 30 not 30 06.
