I have used 165 gr sierra hpbt with my 56.6 gr imr 4350 for caribou. It's definitely my fav reloading powder. Gonna try some 165 gr sst and varget next

I use nothing other than H4350 in my 30-06 ammo with a 165/168gr bullet. There is nothing wrong with IMR4350 but H4350 is less temp sensitive.

I think you will really like 57.0gr IMR4350 under a 165/168gr bullet. (as suggested many times above) I use a slightly different charge of H4350.

I bought 11lbs of imr4350 today. Was wondering is this a good powder for the 06 with 150-165 gr bullets. What's better h4350 or imr4350. I couldn't pass up the deal on this powder. Starting over with my 06. Can't get the gun to shoot any better than 2 inch groups with 4064. Varget. 4895. Your thoughts.
I use it exclusively for my 06, in all weights of bullets, and I load everything from 150 to 200 grains. And it doesn’t matter what design, they all work well in my Ruger, and it provides the best grouping. I use nothing else after finding the IMR4350.;

Beware of those SST bullets. My experience is they blow up at high velocity…..but are extremely accurate.

Even in my wife’s 7-08, they explode.

In her gun and my son’s .280, I load them for deer/antelope because they are so accurate.

Both those guns get a Barnes for elk. 140 gr and 150 gr respectively.

I like a bullet that holds together and gets an exit hole.

But everything they’ve shot has died nearly in its tracks.

I just wouldn’t use them for anything bigger than mule deer myself.

If your rifle won't shoot small groups with 150 grain bullets and 51 grains of IMR 4064 it probably won't do any better with 57 grains of IMR 4350. The one thing I can tell you to make it better is to anneal your case necks and then reduce the trigger pull on your rifle so you have a light trigger pull without any creep. Consistent case neck tension and a good trigger will help get the group size down.

52.5 gr 4064 with a 150 gr Sierra has been my .30-06 load since 1975.
54.5 gr H4350 with 180 gr Nosler Partition is my elk loads.

For whatever reason, 165 gr bullets are not as accurate as those 2 loads in my rifles

Interesting you purchased 11 lbs of a powder you’ve never used. Must of been a heck of a deal.

It was!

I just got lucky and bought out a guy who has been reloading for 45 years. I paid less than 300$ for everything he had. I've got 10 different powders and 9 manuals RCBS press so much more. I've got over 300 rounds of 6.5 cm brass.

IMR 4350 is one of the versatile powders that work in many applications. Kind of like Varget for bigger cartridges. If you load enough stuff you'll find a use for it.

I bought an 8# jug never having used it. It's not Garand safe so I don't use it in -06, even for hunting loads as I have other powders that worked better for me. It's my go-to for 300WM, 25-06 and 7.5x55. Tried it in most everything else that I load that it's suitable for. Makes me feel good to have some on my shelf.

I have a 30-06 load using a 168gr match bullet and H4350 that will do sub 1/2 MOA @100 yards from a Howa 1500 rifle. I know many loaders use 4895 for the 30-06 but I truly feel 4350 is a much better choice but for M1 Garand ammo. That gets 4895.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I just have to mention that Uncle Sam's 30-06 load in the 40's was 50.0 gr. 4895 and 147 FMJ, so that's what I use in my M1 out of nostalgia.

IMR-4350 has been my go to powder for 270 and 30-06 for over 45 years. A ladder load of 4350 and 165 gr SMK or Nosler BT in a ought six will tell me if the gun is going to shoot. If it doesn't it is going to someone else. If a 180 gr is in the works I might try some IMR-4831.
Same here for the 270 with Sierra 130 gr. Been reloading it for about the same amount of time. Shot so well out of my BDL that I never tried any other powder.
