Rem CDL 30-06 any use Varget?

This was my first summer at reloading I worked up to 55gr IMR4350. I had some varget on hand for a 110gr project that never got off the ground this year and used it with the 165's in Greek brass. Rolled 8 loads 46.3 grains of Varget.
This grouped very good if not better then IMR4350 but the recoil was very light compared to my IMR4350 loads. So i am guessing really low volecity? Getting to cold out now to work up the load.
Why don't I see many Varget users in my search?
Is shooting at higher volecity's the reason people move to 4064 from varget because the groups spread out?

Varget is a very versatile powder and works well in the '06 with the lighter bullets, 165gr & lower. Check the www.Hodgden.com data site. The loads that you mentioned as using are near minimum according to the site. Which is fine if they're accurate.

I'm not sure what you mean because Varget is slower burning than IMR4064 and IMO, IMR4350 is one of the best powders for the range of bullets that's available for the '06. Medium-slow powders work best.

Remy quite the opposite with me I tried Varget in 30-06 with 130gr. up 180gr. bullets and went right back to IMR 4064 and IMR 4350.

It's entirely possible that it did occur, as all rifles are individuals and react to different components in their own way. IMR4064 is an old reliable powder that can give you good ballistics. According to Hodgdon's site burn rate chart, IMR4064 is faster burning but the charges listed indicate that IMR4064 is slower. Ramshot burn rate chart shows IMR4064 a tiny bit slower burning than Varget. It's safe to say that they are very close in burn rate, and both will do well in your '06.
As I said before, there are some better powders available. Look in your manuals for choices that work.

when i started reloading i was using a .243 win and a .30-06 so i could use a shared slower burning powder. i am now loading for a short barrelled 7mm08 and a long barrelled .30-06. i tried to use the same powder for both again and found was not getting anything like the best performance from them. I now use 60 gr of imr4350 with 165gr sgk in the 30-06 and 45.5gr of h4895 with 120 gr sierra pro hunters in the 7mm. i would suggest go with the powder that gives good performance for that bullet in that calibre. so look at re19 or 22 imr or H 4350. viht 150 or 550. there is loads of data on the net now. remember to work up your loads slowly and safely. you use my loads at your own risk.

150gr Nosler Ballistic Tip over 48.5gr Varget.

Out of my 700BDL, it'll put three shots in one hole at 50yd and group under an inch at 100. It'd do better, but then I'd have to do MY job and keep the damn thing steady

I'd be hunting with this load right now, but I'm on a .260 Rem kick and am waiting to see how it performs on deer before going back to the '06.
