30-06 length, hi-cap, detatchable box mag?

i'm not up on my military guns... just winchesters and mauser actions.

what is a 30-06 length detatchable box magazine?

i want to make a hi-cap mag for my remington 7600... i am a welder and have some extra factory 4rnd mags so shouldn't be a problem. i just need a readily available magazine as a donor for the box and extended spring.

I think the BAR magazine is the only one that comes to mind. They were mostly 20 rounders.

Thats BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) of military fame, not the sporting rifle.

I think they leave something to be desired, they use the flat springs like bolt actions of the day. You may be able to adapt one somehow though.

I have a 10 rd plastic magazine for my Rem 742 marked eagle international but I bought it 25 years ago. Don't know if they still make it.

I'm pretty sure they are already available, I have two 10-round after market steel mags for a Remington 750 in .308.

Sarco advertises a magazine for the 98 Mauser. Don't remember if it's 10 or 20 round, costs about $70 if I remember right. They call it a trench magazine. Hope this helps.

I have seen metal ones as while as the Eagle ones. I think there is a company on line that modifies 7400's and has magazines. The ones I saw work on both semi auto and pump rifles.

Thanks guys. I'd seen the eagle and ramline 10 rounders but didn't,t want plastic ... Looking again I see that the are companies that offer steel versions so that's a option but I think I'll still try making one first especially if I can get it to be in the 15-20 rnd range.

Don't know where you'd find one, but my Egyptian Hakim in 8x57 uses a 10 round removable box mag.

FWIW, theres been many reports of the aftermarket higher capacity mags not being very reliable in the Remingtons and other guns not really designed for them.

I believe there were also some sort of 20 rounders for the 1903 Springfield. Supposedly used by aviators in WW1.

I have a couple 10 rd steel aftermarket mags for the Remington 760. I just checked and sadly they are unmarked.

The BAR mags are the cheapest place to start.

They go for $50 - $70 each.

The WWI a 1903 Springfield Air Service 25 round mags start at $600 rusty, up to a grand in the shipping box.

The 25 round extension magazines that were made during WWI for the 1903 Springfield are usually available somewhere, but they run from $400.00 to $600.00 if you can find them. They simply lock into place after the floor plate is released and removed.
The cover plate keeps the follower depressed until the magazine is ready to be attached to the rifle. Because the magazine attaches to the trigger guard, the follower goes up through the magazine well. After the magazine is attached to the rifle, feeding 25 rounds into the magazine is done manually one at a time or can be done using five full stripper clips of five rounds each. These will only readily fit a 1903 Springfield though. Not a 1903A3 or any other type of bolt action rifle.

+1 on TripleK mags (that work very well) for the 760 (assume 7600 is the same, but not sure). Lamentably, I have purchased others that suck out loud; both are unmarked as far as that goes.

Wow. Some of thee mags would be worth more than my gun... That rules out the cut and weld idea
