I have the old 30-06 model 110c Savage which is about 30 years old. As a matter of fact if was my first deer rifle my wife bought me. Lately I have been thinking of making it into a tactical rifle for no valid reason. Just got a wild hair up my........ Anyway I,m thinking 26" barrel in a heavy varmint like a #7 and stock I have not decided yet. Would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction for a stock. By the way I am a lefty and the stock has to accommodate us southpaws shooters.

Just so you know, barrel length adds velocity, but a shorter barrel has increased rigidity, meaning greater accuracy. If you want to do +400 yard shooting, by all means go for the 26" heavy barrel! If your never going to be shooting past 300 yards or so there's really no serious benefit with having the longer barrel and something along the 20" line might work a little better for ya.

As for a stock, I would put one of these on it. I don't know if they fit left hand actions though.

a longer tube also puts the muzzle blast that much farther infront of you. If your going with a heavy weight barrel it probably matters less, in terms of stiffness, then it would with sporter weight barrel. Were you thinking of changing caliber or are you happy with the '06, ive wanted to build a 30 gibbs as a target type rifle for a while.

If you hit Midwayusa just type savage left hand in the search, those stocks Ranger likes do come in left hand. I like a more benchresty kinda stock but, thats personal preference.

I love the 30-06, my other rifle is a Tikka T3 lite in 30-06. It too is a great and accurate shooter out of the box. My brothers have some land by Terlingua and Big Bend and I just wanted to show them how to shoot long range between 400 to 1200 yds which the 30-06 can handle well. The reason for the 26" barrel is basically it will absorb some recoil without having to put a break on it. Busted shoulder limits my shooting with this caliber and a muzzle break blows your ear drums out along with anyone next to you.

I'll check Midway and type savage left hand. Thanks for the tips.

If your budget allows, I'd take a serious look at McMillian or Manners, they come in any shape your heart desires and also can be made for a left handed action.

PB Walsh thanks for the direction. I am going to go with the Manners Stock T4A and a shilen #7 barrel, once again thanks for the help. As for ball3006 why even make a comment if you have no help to offer.
