OK, I think the issues with the gun are resolved. So now it is time for the workup for the perfect load for it. The local SG store only had the Remington PSP corelok in 165 grain, so the initial test loads will be such until the order from Midway shows up with the GameKings, which I intend to use as my hunting bullet.

Workup: 30-06
Fire Formed brass - Remington
Primers - Winchester WLR
Powder H4350
Bullet - Remington PSPCL 165 gr

Charge Workup - 54 gr to 57 gr
These will go to the range tomorrow. Report to follow.

I know some swear by the Rem PSPCL for performance but I've found the Speer Spitzer groups much tighter and cost is just pennies more. this is for my '06 Ruger. I haven't tryed the Sierra yet but have read good about 'em. good luck.

I read your previous posts on the issues that you dealt with when you got it. Your choice of components are good. I use H4350 in my 308 Norma Mag with 165gr Nosler BT, just a little more of it. 71gr gives the Noslers about 3100fps. As far as the rifle is concerned, You have done about everything needed to make it work. My emphasis would be to make sure the barrel is free floated in that synthetic stock. I think that you will end up nearer to the 57gr load for overall satisfaction. That was a great buy.

If it still dont shoot right,Ill give you double what you paid for it.
I will bet if it still doesnt shoot,a new crown would bring it right up to snuff for around $20.

Well, the range trip got put off for a few days. I had some out of town family show up for the holiday weekend. I don't get to see my daughter that frequently these days, so the range can wait. I will post results later this week. Midway should be delivering the good stuff before Wednesday, so I may be able to take the 165g gamekings on the same trip.

RANGE REPORT!
The gun is GREAT! It performs just as good as the 270 I bought new.

30-06, H4350 powder, WLR primers, REM brass, REM 165g PSPCL bullets
Just got back in. Load workup was in 1gr increments.
54G - shabby
55G - much better
56G - excellent, one flyer. The round did not sound right or feel right when it fired, I will take it apart carefully and see if there is anything obvious.
57G - shot good, but started to spread out.

I will do a workup with the Gamekings when they show up.

Griz,
I'm using a similar combination of components in my 30-06 rounds.
Brass - Fire Formed Federal
Primers - Winchester WLR
Powder H4350
Bullet - Sierra MatchKing 168gr BTHP

I'm charging 58.0gr H4350 and they are very accurate when shot from my 1903A3 but with metal sights I don't get groups like your's. At 100 yards I did fire 20 rounds with nothing outside the 8 ring on a B-27 target. (remember, that's with old eyes and iron sights so no jokes) I don't remember charging 56.0gr but I will check my notes and if I didn't I'll have to give it a try.

When I first started working up loads for the Springfield last year I tried H4895, IMR4895, H4350 and IMR4350 and I found H4350 to be the best powder for 168gr BTHP 30-06 rounds for my rifles. I'm glad to see someone else is using H4350 in their 30-06.

Thanks for the report.

My next round of proofs will be all the way up to 59g. Iwanted to stay low with the first batch to look for pressure signs. When the Gamekings come in, I will start over at 54 again and work my way up. The gun is right again, and I am very happy with it. I think it will be a keeper to hand down to the boys some day.. But for now, it will go with me to draw blood at the deer lease. So far, I have taken white tail with every center fire rifle I own (8 of them) from .223 to 30-06. Haven't seen any need for smaller or larger yet. Maybe someday Africa will be possible, but not while I have kids in college. (sigh)
