Anything new and exciting come your way in .30-06 this hunting season ?

Pet loads, bullet types..... 12-point and up pics will also be accepted :)

Well nothing really new, or really exciting, but I picked up a keg of H4895 last spring and just before deer season rolled around, I managed to more or less duplicate two factory Remington CL loads, 150gr, and 165gr from my pop's old 03A3. Also did the same for my little Ruger in .308.

I don't have the notes with me as for charge weights, but I did use Remington CL bullets, and my loads were within around 10fps of theirs, and my accuracy was actually a little better. Nothing to write home about but within 2.5" at 200yds. Well within minute of deer or hog round these parts.

Didn't do anything fancy, just measured some of theirs for OAL, put 5 across the chrony for a rough average velocity, then started dumping powder a little at a time working up. When I hit their velocity range I tweaked the OAL only about .015" and left it be with what I got.

I haven't had the chance to put any to use just yet, but figure they should do just fine.

I don't load 30-06 any more, but when I did I really liked IMR-4350 under a 165 gr. anything for deer, elk, and antelope. If I were to pick up loading for the 06 now, I would probably switch that powder choice to RL19 or another simular burn rate powder.

I do miss all the options for loading .30 cal. though, and the 06 is deffinitely a great cartridge to work with I think.

Nothing new here...For the past 19 years, 57 gr. of IMR-4350 under a 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips have been giving me 3 shots touching groups out of my pet 700. I loaded up a few and bench tested her this fall. Nothing has changed.

The 30-06 Springfield is perhaps my favorite cartridge. I have hand loaded it since 1953.

I got a really nice big buck this fall with one of my 06's shooting the 155 gr Berger VLD.

I just bought a Winchester M70 Ultimate Shadow in 30-06....does that count?

Please don't ask for pics just yet...the gun arrived at my FFL today, but I'm on the road and won't be home until the 23rd. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

For most of my recent deer hunting(last 6 years) Ive used a Model 70 stainless w/BOSS. I shoot 61 gr(approach with caution!) RL-22 under a 180 Partition, all wrapped up in Winchester brass and sparked by CCI 200's(BR2's in my case, as at the time that was all I could get.) Prior to that I used Federal premium with 180 Partitions. The RL 61 gr load bests the factory stuff at around 2760 fps. The factory stuff was in the high 2600's if my memory serves me correctly. 62 of RL grains will yield just about 2800 from the Winchesters 22" BBL but accuracy wasn't as good and no boss setting could equal the 3/4" groups the 61 gr load produced. My Montana M1999 w/25.5" BBL will throw the 62 gr charge quite a bit faster and drives tacks but as a luck sort of the thing the M70 accompanies me into the wood most of the time. As for deer, this year a New Hampshire 184 lb, 9 point(alright rack) fell to the 61 gr load and two 200+ Ontario whitetails have dropped in their tracks as well. Throw in the usual mix of small bucks and a few flatheads. :) Happy loading and hunting!

Looks like you lost that one. I can tell from the look on his face, that boy ain't turning it loose!

Sorry, nothing new here either.

I load a 168gr MatchKing bullet for practice and load a 165gr GameKing for Deer and other similar size game. Using those 2 bullets require no changes in powder or powder weight and the scope settings are the same. IMO that is the way to go...

BTW, I use H4350 under both bullets and under a 165gr Nosler Partition bullet too.

Nothing new here but what do I know just startting handloading 2 years ago. But I do got a old 721 .06 and a 700 .308. What powders do you all like sofar I got I got VARGET,BLC-2,IMR4064,IMR4350 and 3 different bullets 150gr & 165rg. 308 is doing great .06 still working on it. And ya you done lost that rifle
