Hi Deaf. I know what you are after, and what can be accomplished. I am a member on both the boards you suggested, but do not feel the need to consult anyone on either board to find out what is possible with the cartridge, despite the impressive knowledge base. I found some data on loading below. Perhaps a few more fps can be had with Leverevolution, but very likely it would have to be pretty hot to hit 2400 with a 170 gr.
What is your target chamber pressure with this round?
Accepting limitations of shooting cast, several of us on Castboolits have gotten the RCBS 180FP going up around 2325fps with a 24 inch barrel. This also really needs the 1 to 12 twist to accurately shoot cast that fast. Mine has no trouble doing it. Read through the whole thread. No chamber reaming necessary. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/sho...ion-Powder&highlight=leverevolution+load+load
My bullet chrono's out that fast with a 200gr. bullet.
The load for these two deer took them down very fast. It was the RCBS 180FP (weighing in at 200r), and fit with a soft point and a hard shank. I shot an elk with a 30-30 over 30 years ago with no problem. This load shoots more like a 308win.
Another possibility for a more expensive rechamber would be to do the job in 308 Marlin Express. Regan Nonneman did the conversion I saw. I have chrono ability and a fellow Marlinowners member a few years came over and showed off his gun and worked up his loads. Granted, there are some limitations (not set up for that pressure), but his gun did well even with the shorter 20 inch barrel. His 160grain loads were over 2500fps. I don't have the data here with me, but I'm sure his 170's were over 2400fps. My 308 Marlin gets the 170's up over 2500fps pretty easily with lever evolution.
