(costs based on buying 100 rounds)

Locally .30-30 ammo is running $0.70 to $0.85/round.
Cabelas bulk is running exactly $0.79/round (after shipping).
Georgia Arms is roughly $0.78/round (after shipping).

EDIT:
Sportsmans Guide is running around $0.60 round (after shipping).

Can I get some hints for other sources of (hopefully less expensive) .30-30 for fun shooting (not hunting or competition)?

Thanks
Ze

Thanks Wolf TMD,
Looks like Sportsmans would run about $0.60/round after shipping costs.
I think I've seen J&C at shows here before, may have to just wait for the next show and see what is there.

Reloading will make the endless search for the best price for ammo go away. You'll be shooting better ammo too.

Walmart. $9 and something for 20 rounds of Federal. That's around .50 per round.

If space is the reloading hang up........

I have a friend that has a press mounted on 3/4 plywood piece that he clamps to the table top with padded clamps. His set of lee dippers, dies, manual etc. all fit in a very small box. If you are on a budget EBay is your friend. I'm a collector of presses and scales and have purchased a number under $25. My best score was a very functional C-H press for four bucks. Your cost per round would plummet. Good Shooting! Essex

Essex County,
Thanks for the advice but it's not technically space that is the issue. It's the wife forbidding me to do reloading in the apartment. She shows a good disposition towards the rest of my hobby but has been very clear about the entire concept of reloading in the house so I don't fight her about it.

After we move and I finally have a workshop...that's a totally different story :)

Hey SSN Vet,
I would be interested in that purchase can you send me a note about how and what you need to send me some of your inventory?
Thanks and I'll see you in the 336 club.

There are no discounts for 100 rounds of any ammo. That starts at case lot's.

Try different Wal-Mart’s 30/30 is the lead mark down at the beginning of hunting season stock up then.

How about .22 LR until then.

It seems like a golden opportunity to buy a Marlin 39a. :)

Walmart: $7.83 Federal - box of 20

Dunham's: $ 5.15 after rebate- Remington 170's 20ct per box

Home loaded: 173gr GC's= $ .077 each or $7.70 per hundred, or $ 1.54 a box of twenty. Satisfaction for assembling your own that are more accurate and consistant than store bought........ PRICELESS!

Well, to repeat earlier posts, the wife absolutely forbid me to do reloading in the apartment. I'm not going to fight her about it because she as had a good disposition towards the rest of my hobby and ya gotta pick your battles.

On the other hand, we're moving soon so I may finally get that workshop after all.

Check all the military surplus stores that sell guns/ammo. Sometimes Academy Sports in the cheapest and sometime the military surplus store is the cheapest.

But I've only had to buy 4 boxes of 30-30 and 1 die set (actually, the die set was a gift from the surplus store when I bought a gun there). Luckily, my wife likes to shoot big calibers and my reloading is not a problem because it keeps her guns well fed too!

Are you saving the brass for when you are able to reload by either:

1. Moving
2. Replacing you-know-who? (just kidding!.... sort of)
