This is NOT a solicitation for purchase.

My Dad passed away this year and I inherited a Winchester 94 lever action. After growing up with the privilege of being able to hunt with him from CA to TX, I have not gone out for nearly 20 years.

Anyway, I went online today to get some 30-30 ammo and....it's all gone?!?!?

Am I crazy? I normally can find stuff available online, but it appears there is NO ammo available.

    Please advise. Thanks!

My advice is you may not be crazy. People have been buying ammo and guns at a brisk pace, record setting some say, for about the last year.

You may have to hit a bunch of local gun stores. I’ve had luck with stores that keep some stock for local folks, so skip Cabellas, Scheels, etc. Also, talk with friends, family, co-workers to see if anyone will give or sell you some ammo. I’d suggest reloading, but primers are all gone, too.

It is, in fact, gone for the time being.

My advice to you is to start cruising the local stores and asking if they have any. I had some luck at a one of five Wal Marts I checked, and two area gun shops out of about a dozen I stopped at.

Upon a time 30-30 would be the caliber most likely to be found in even the most rural hardware store or gas station mostly because (in my opinion) if a household had a longarm at all it was most likely going to be a .22lr, 12ga shotgun, or a 30-30 rifle. Well, along came the election cycle - Covid - rioting three-way problem and a lot of people who might not have otherwise been concerned about ammunition figured they had better lay some in. Poof. 30-30 has in many areas disappeared.

There are a ton of 30-30 rifles out there so I’m not surprised the ammo has been hit hard. People are buying whatever ammo they can. It seems like the oddball calibers are about all that’s in stock anywhere.

I took a buddy of mine and his son shooting earlier this summer. They had a 30-30 that they wanted to shoot, but couldn't find any ammo then. I told him to look online and everyplace was out there too.

There are going to be a lot of unhappy people as hunting season rapidly approaches.

Went to the local Academy yesterday. 8 boxes of 450 Bushmaster and three boxes of 6.5 Creedmore was all that was on the shelves other than shotgun. No buck or slugs on the shotgun side.

Most Denver Metro Walmarts had .30-30 until a couple weeks ago. I suggest calling a few in your local area to check.

The Wal-Marts in Western Washington have been getting .30-30 in every couple of weeks. Bought two boxes of the Federal Power-Shok 170 grain at my local Bi-Mart just last week -- at pre-pandemic pricing.

I notice Federal's website (which sells its ammo for double the pre-panic pricing) lists all its .30-30 as "unavailable" yet it seems to be filtering out to some of retail stores.

If there is an Academy close to you, check with them, the 2 local to me gets 3 deliveries a week and most deliveries have at least some ammo

I wish if I could get half that price for the 200 or so rounds of 30 herrett i have with split case necks...

Ive got about 100 rounds of federal powershock 30-30 (and dont own a 30-30) but they are being saved to replace all those 30 herrett rounds.

In Wisconsin several companies like Mills Farm and Fleet has a daily limit of 2 boxes total per person per day limit. Call around. By the way, their sister company Blain's Fleet Farm hasn't done that yet. I was there last week when an employee was stocking the shelf with .45 ACP ammo. A person walked up to the employee and told him to put it all back into the cart. They guy too the cart right to a cashier as I followed and he bought all of it. Paid over $1,000 with a credit card and left the store.

plan for the worst and hope for the best. as a hunter and reloader for over 60 years i always seemed to aquire all sorts of ammo-loading supplies at shows-yard sales-flea markets at very good prices, i filled a garage and two small sheds over the years. i picked up three boxes new winchester .264 mag cases and one box of new winchester 7mm mag primed cases at wednesday,s flea market for 20.00, i don,t even own a .264 mag rifle.

When I finally found a JM Marlin 30-30 lever worth hauling home I had to take the 200 rounds of ammo the seller told me I had to buy with the gun. Now it seems like an excellent deal after all. At $3.35 per round is like getting the gun for free.

Of note: it is hunting season. Bound to be quite a few 30-30s in the field with fresh ammo loaded in them. With the ammo shortage and manufacturers focusing on cranking out the popular apocalyptic calibers it was bound to eventually start having an impact on the availability of the venerable lever round. Lesson learned.

Check Walmart, as others have said. I saw Federal there the last time I looked, which was this month.

    It’s not a 30-30 specific issue

right now there is NO ammo available through midwayusa.

they do not even have 30/06 or 270 in stock

I'm feeling grateful about inheriting a nice old rifle yesterday. The OP also inherited a rifle but cannot find ammo for it.
    So ...
I am fairly well stocked with 30-30. I am willing to share the inheritance joy by offering to send the OP a box of 30-30 for the cost of shipping. $10-$12 should cover it.

    PM me and it's yours.

THERE IS A CONDITION - you have to post a picture of your inherited rifle.
