.30-30 ammunition

I have a Marlin 336 that is awesome, I love it. I have been shooting 150 gr. Winchester ammunition and I have been looking for information on the .30-30 Hornady Leverevolution ammunition, but I can't seem to find people who have actually fired this type of ammunition. Has anyone used it while hunting or at the firing range, is accuracy notably different, and what can I expect from it?

You can expect better down range ballistics, the Hornady Leverevolution ammunition will strain a few more foot pounds of energy due to increased velocity and better BC than the other ammunition you mention, this will equate to a somewhat flatter trajectory also.

The reports from customers using this ammunition for hog, whitetail and black bears have been favorable, folks say the bullets have preformed as well or better than the round nose bullets like the Remington Core-Lokt or Winchester Power Points in the 30-30 caliber.

Just make sure your particular rifle likes the Hornady fodder.

From my Marlin 336:
Winchester 150gr, 2267fps, 1711 ft-lbs
Federal 170gr, 2152fps, 1748 ft-lbs
Hornady 160gr FTX, 2346fps, 1955 ft-lbs

As you can see it really seems to be a premium bullet with better ballistics. My 30-30 never liked 150gr loads, always preferred 170gr. The Hornady 160gr groups even better. I get about 1" at 84 yards. Range doesn't have 100 yard length. It is worth noting that the point of impact is about 6" higher, so you can't go back and forth without resighting in.

i get the best accuracy out of my Winchester model 94AE with the new Winchester Power Max 150gr PHP ammo, it works better then the Silvertips., its a protected hollow point bullet.

LeverEvo is nice, but as stated above - it's such a departure from older styles that you need to set-up your sights for it. I have a click sticker for mine that tells me how much to dial the scope initially if I'm changing from one to the other.

My wife shoots the Leverevolution through her 336. I also shoot it through my .308 express (duh). It's very good ammunition in both chamberings. Although, it does tend to fragment through heavy bone, so watch out for those shoulder shots if you want every ounce of meet. Also on that note, the fragmentation appears to be late in the wound path, and the round is very devastating against bone. The shoulder shots I have take against 135 to 165 pound deer have penetrated through both shoulders and lodged under the skin on the far side of the deer with all the bullet fragments together. All the bones in between seem to simply cease to exist for about half an inch to an inch. Such a shot with this ammunition puts deer down instantly... but ruins a good bit of the far shoulder meet.

I find it to be a good DRT round for hunting in heavy brush. Neither the wife or I have had to track a deer since switching to our Marlins firing leverevolution from normal .308.

It is good ammo for both the .30-30Win. and the .45-70Govt. I have used both to good effect, and consider both to be the best of the factory fodder.

Buddy of mine uses the Leverevolution and loves it. His previous ammo was the 170 Core-Lokt and he feels that the Leverevolution kills faster.

i have used 150,170gn sp, the 160gn ftx, and the barnes 150tsx out of my 30-30. mostly at the range, the barnes are my hunting rounds, but the leverroution i can get 3 shots in the same hole at 50yds with a peep sight. havent shot anything with them other than the TSX's. if you reload the ftx's like to be right at the lands.
