I know that this issue has been hashed through before, but what's the reality of using hard cast in a Marlin micro-grooved barrel? Does accuracy suffer? I'm advised that when the bullet hits a certain weight accuracy will suffer dramatically.

Any info?.....Thanks!

also http://www.lasc.us/fryxellmarlin-microgroove.htm about halfway down it talks about shooting lead in a marlin 30/30. to sum up:

".....Other examples can be found in the .30-30, .32 Special, .444 Marlin, etc., but you get the point. Microgroove rifles can shoot cast bullets just fine -- just keep them oversized, GC-ed and hard enough."

edit: rprny posted the same link I did, just with a different url so I didn't recognize it.

I scanned the referenced posts all claiming great results with cast bullets and microgroove barrels. My results are somewhat different and are consistent with the claims that you need to keep velocities below 1600 fps or accuracy will be bad.

That is what happened to me.

SF - that's good data. Since this questions comes up fairly frequently, it would be ideal if the mods could archive this thread for easy retrieval.

I like the 311041 bullet also in micro-grooved barrels. I cast it using WWs 19 lbs/ Lyno 1 lb, a Hornady GC, size to .310" or .311" (both work great), lube with Speedgreen, and use 18.0grns 5744 or 16grns 2400. Any standard primer is fine. Don't be put off by all the Micro-groove anti cast bullet hype! They shoot as well as jacketeted, but you don't want to try to push them as fast as can be achieved by a jacketed bullet. Good luck!
