I recently came into possession of a used 14" barrel in 30-30 for my Contender. A quick trip to the range with factory 150gr loads showed that it would group nicely into 1 inch at 100 yds if I do my part. However, all the reloading manuals I have give loads for the rifle, not the pistol. With the shorter barrel, which powders would work out best? I plan on shooting 150gr Hornady bullets (ones designed for the 30-30) since I have a supply of them. Suggestions as to where to find the best info or pet loads from someone who has this combination would be appreciated.

My Lyman 47th shows the following loads .
My book shows a 10" and 14" BARREL as the test bbls. used.
bullet listed is a 150 grain jacketed spire point.
for your 14" barrel it shows:
imr 4064 29.o grains at 1699fps and max at 31.5grains at 1950fps.
IMR 3031 25.5gr @ 1602fps,and max at 28.5 grains @1847
748 start @ 33.0 for 1779fps,and max at 38.5(compressed load)giving 2077fps.
I have triple-checked the data I show here,but I DO NOT ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT'S ACCURACY OR USAGE.
Maybe someone else with this manual can verify for the poster??
They list data for IMR 4198, and rx7 if you need it.

IME, the fastest loads in the long barrel are usually the fastest in the short barrel. There are some loads with slight differences where this might not be so but that could be as much differences in bore dimensions affecting burn rates, etc.

30-30 brass ?
I have read that 30-30 brass is weak for reloading is that the case or not ? Can you reloading many times or not ? I know if you load it hot it will not last as long . I have need loading for over 24 years just have never done the 30-30 it would be in a contender G2,

.30-30 brass any good??? What?? Did someone get some bad thutty-thutty brass out there??? 
With common sense and TLC .30-30 brass (Including Remington) will last through many reloadings...The only problem you might encounter is crushing the shoulder during resizing (don't put too much lube on the case, but don't be too chincy either) and trying to put too heavy of a crimp on it. I highly recommend Lee FCD for this purpose. Other then that........

Also, with most Contender brass it's not a bad idea to just bump the shoulder when sizing until they'll chamber. Should reduce stretching and be a bit easier on the brass. Supposed to set up more consistently and give better accuracy. Haven't messed with this much, but my 7 TCU seemed to shoot well enough doing this.
