I guess it's true after all. 30-30 has what it takes to put meat on the table and trophies on the wall. Nice bucks but I'm not in any of these photos. Perhaps some day.

No big surprise here. This is just my personal opinion, but I'd be willing to bet decent money that if you could take a survey of every deer killed in North America in the last 8 decades or so, you'd find the .30-30 in the top three as far as the cartridge that did the killin'. I don't think it's ever been the dominant choice for deer hunters, but it's remained consistently popular while others (.35 Whelen, .30-06, .270, .45/70) have gone up and down over the years.

With the right load you can easily take elk, black bear, and maybe even moose if close enough.

6 hours to track? I don't hunt with a .30-.30 anymore, but my first 20 or so deer were killed with one. The tracking consisted, for the most part, of walking from where I pulled the trigger to where the deer was piled up in a heap. These shots weren't all broadside. Many were neck shots, many quartering shots, anywhere from 15 to 150 yards. A 180 grain, 30 caliber bullet is a formidable hunting tool.

Further: If you truly know your rifle, and you do know the range to the trophy buck, there's no reason a skilled shot cannot kill a deer at 300 yards with the .30-30.
Your point is understandable, but it's irrelevant to the point of this thread: A skilled hunter who's competent with his lever-action .30-30 can indeed kill large, trophy bucks.

A 30-30 was my first deer rifle when I was young and I killed a handful of game with it. When I had that gun it made me feel like I was in a western movie.Great gun but you have to practice your shot placement or you will be tracking that deer all day long.
