I found some 30-30 head stamps that are clearly not 30 cal. They appear to be 7-30 waters with a 30-30 head stamp. So it would appear they started out as 30-30 brass. What do you think will happen if I run them through the 30-30 FL die?
This is the first time I have found 30-30 brass that had been turned into something else.

I would be suspect of conversion brass just left at the range. It's not like the shooter can run to the store for more.

And then again sometimes you cant retrieve your brass, which happened to me last week in an indoor range, too many hang arounds crowded the area and couldn't get my Tok brass back, most of it ejected forward into the lanes, Grr i hate losing brass...

I have tested 30-30 to failure. I used Remington brass because 20 years ago those were clearly the cheapest and thinnest. I got 6 to 8 reloads before the cases gave neck and body splits.
I'm pretty sure gave up after 8 because I figured after 8 they would be lost or split.

PM me!
I’ve got an abundance of .30/30 brass.
I’ll swap you even for the 7-30 brass. Both our problems solved!

Without annealing, the necks will likely crack. I’ve got 7-30 Contender Carbine. Only about 100 cases and lost about a dozen 30/30 cases forming TV them.
Reforming them will require expanding the necks and concurrently pushing the shoulder back.
The .30/30 brass is thin and won’t easily cooperate!

But, then again they could be in .25-35. Got a Marlin in .25-36. So either way we’re still good!

i shoot a 7 30, 30 30, 32 win special, a 38 55 and a 375 win big bore. once fired range pick up brass in all of them.(30 30)
....the brass is free, who cares how long or how many loads i get out of them. just use lots of imperial die wax on the inside of the case mouth and go slow. jmho.

Anneal, lube case and inside neck, go slow.

I convert .243, 7-08 and .308 to .260, no problem. .270 to 7x57 is tougher, but still not a big deal.

Best bet is trade them with Goose.

This is true but for 10 pieces the postage twice would far outweigh the benefit.

The forward shoulder will prevent the 7-30 from being chambered in a .30-30. It would have to shoved back in a sizer die and likely will collapse the case. Somethings are just not backwards adaptable.

It works, I got some wrinkles reforming the shoulder. Fire forming will fix that. I'll need several test rounds.
All the cases survived so far.
There was only 9 of them.

It's like forming 204ruger cases to 223. But unusually don't find them till after they're at least half way in the 223 die.
