I picked up a Super 14 barrel in 7-30 Waters for my G2 Contender. Now, to make up some brass for loading. I have some various brands of 30-30 Winchester brass, but decided to buy some to dedicate to the Waters loading. I could not find 7-30 brass, so I bought 100 Privi Partisan 30-30 Winchester cases.
My question is about the bullets I would like to use for fire forming. I happen to have a couple boxes of Hornady 175gr. 7MM bullets I got years ago at a very cheap price.I really don't have use for them in my 7MM Remington Magnum, so I thought I would use them up to fire form my 7-30 Waters brass. Looking through published loads for Contenders I found one that shows a starting load of 26.5gr. of H335 under the 175gr. round nosed Hornady bullet.
What say you? Would this be a load that would accomplish fire forming without being unsafe for my G2 Contender?
In one way it is to just use up bullets I have no other use for. In another way, it's a way to use bullets that are available, with almost any 7MM bullets being difficult to find in my area.
I have been able to find one box of Hornady SP 120gr.and one of Nosler BT 120gr. which I plan to use to develope my hunting loads with.

You'll love the 7-30 Waters.

I have a 14" blued T/C Contender in 7-30 Waters and it is a laser to shoot. Light recoil and super accurate.

The down side, which you've already run into is the lack of factory brass. Luckily, I was able to pick up 200 pieces of Federal factory 7-30 Waters brass last year.

Making the Waters brass from .30/30 is pretty easy and all you need is a light load, so I would use those bullets.

In my T/C, I use either Nosler 120gr BT's or Hornady 139gr SST's. Midway has 120 and 140gr Nosler BT's and Hoornady too.

Those will probably work. It doesn't take much to fireform. As long as you have something to hold some pressure in the case your good to go. The 175s may be too long to chamber though as most 7-30s are more conical than rounded, and use bullets in the 120-140 range. Your best bet is to load a single round and see if it fits and the gun snaps closed securely. Post pics if possible.

Great round, but

Something you might have to do is grab some soft primers. I loaded some 7mm TCU with CCI Primers that wouldn't go bang. My gunsmith told me to go with Winchester or Federal for a softer cup. Both worked. CCI has a hard cup and a light hammer strike won't always set them off.

I took 2 deer with the 120 Nosler BT in my TCU this year. It shoots very well but ruined a shoulder on the first one and absolutely made a mess inside. Think I will try a Speer next year.
