Just a note for you fellers that haven't got/shot a model 94:

Don't miss an opportunity to hoist one up to your cheek and feel that "feeling" that occurs knowing it's a totally American rifle that has a history worth knowing. :)

(the Marlins too!)

even though I have my dad's .30-06 Remington pump action available, as well as my bolt action .25-06, I have been getting the itch to get another Marlin 336 in .30-30; dad's .30-06 shoots nice with reduced recoil ammo & my .25-06 has very little recoil, but I remember having good fun with my .30-30...almost as much fun as my .357 magnum lever; Dick's had their usual Marlin 336A combo with cheap scope for $309 in fall of 2007; now I can't find a bare bones Marlin anything fot under $399 - $409...UUUGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!

kmrcstintn, Chesk the used racks at the local gun shops. Pawn shops here have nice used Marlin running around $200 Store brands (sears, wards etc) are even cheaper but still made by marlin and whichester. The online auctions are way high on most winchester 94 prices compaired to buying in a shop.

Nothing wrong with the 30-30, especially with that new hornady leverevolution ammo.

With the new ammo you don't even have to limit yourself to within 100 yards for some game.

I'd like to pick up a marlin lever 30-30 myself.

There was a guy hunting America Bison (on either VS or The Outdoor Channel) a few weeks ago. He shot the buffalo at 100 yds using a Winchester30-30. The buffalo dropped with one shot. Final weight 2200 pounds.

my local shops have junky Winchester 94's at near or over $300; pristine ones are pushing $500; Marlins are nearly wiped out or priced higher since the new ones are creeping up in price...:cuss:

Marlins have gone up quiet a bit likely based on the fact that they have a corner of the market on .30-30 rifles. My 336W was bought Christmas of 06 and was $289.00 . I have not seen any lately under $325.00. The discontinued Winchester 94 was dropped has to be the reason for the higher prices of the Marlins. Product and demand. I thought a piece of America died when the 94 was dropped.
