I am looking to load .30-30Win with H335, Wolf LR primers, and Hornady 160gr FTX bullets. Has anyone loaded .30-30Win with these components? Any suggestions. What weight of H335 charge works best? Thanks.

This is not a powder recommended even by the manufacturer of the powder for the cartridge you desire to utilize it for.

Build from there !

Assuming you wanted to experiment, I believe you would find h335 far too fast for this application. For .30-30 generally a long slow "push" is preferred to a rocket fast "snap" in the powder department.

Save that H335 for its intended purpose- .223 55 gr Pills. You'll be much happier with your results there.

My two cents, anyways.

I load the 30-30 win.with IMR 3031 or IMR 4064 WLR primers, and the Hornady 160 FTX. It works for me.

I use H335 and the FTX's with no problem for 30-30, 308 ME, 308 AR. Use the Hornady load data to start. POI for my load is about 1" below Rem 150 core-lok with good grouping at 100 yds. I don't use a max load.

Uhhh..might want to look again..

this is the reason you need to double check info from the experts on the internet. This is for a 170, so it would be OK for a 160, but check for yourself

.223's use about the same powders as bigger bores that have relatively small case capacity for the bullet diameter. I use Varget for my .45-70 and my .30-30. Pistol powder for my .458 SOCOM (H-110). Look up the term "expansion ratio".

Gotta be careful with those aging generals of the internet as well.... Seems they love to throw that weight around some bit.

Hodgdons DOESN'T OFFER a loading of 160 grains with h335.

Edit : bad eyes : There is one there.....

Even looked twice, for what its worth.

Look up the term "lout"... It sits better for the accusatory posts.

He asked for 160, not 170.

Hodgdon lists H335 for every bullet weight on their site except for the 160 GR. HDY FTX. It does better velocity wise with bullets under 170 Gr.

For the 160 FTX you would have to work up your own data using H335. No big deal for an experienced handloader, but not something for the novice.

You can use one of the powders Hodgdon lists, or maybe the Hornady manual or web site has some data with other powders.

Anyway----I have not used that particular combo the OP asked about in my 30-30 loads. I have however had great success using 3031 with multiple weight bullets and recommend it highly for the 30-30.

Go to Hornady FTX load site and choose your powder. Check for bullet weight (type), velocity you want and pressure you get. H335 is a reasonable choice, good fps and low pressure. LVR is probably better, but limited in caliber use.

+1 H335 in .30-30.

In broad strokes (consult a reloading table!) you'll find powder that is suitable for .30-30 is also suitable for .223 REM and .308 Win., among others.

Gee....so I'm not the only one that saw that.....;)

My point was that you'd be wise to double check ANY load data (even from mfg's), and to NEVER take anything from a website as gospel

just sayin'

Hodgdon SELLS LVR, so why advertise something else. Haven't used LVR, but tried 8208 XBR and didn't like it, pressure and recoil are a lot greater then H335.

Seems there are many that use the H335:) Little hot on this recommended

http://www.leverguns.com/articles/paco/3030varmint.htm

From 1000 fps with 10 grains of 2400 to 2500 fps with 36.5 grains of H335, and that’s from a 20 inch barrel, this 150 grain cast bullet shaped like a fist is extremely accurate. The H335 load runs just over 40,000 psi so be sure your 30-30 is in good condition.....
