Well I am planning to start loading for 30-40 krag
I don't have any round nose bullets this time, will probably purchase the next time I go component shopping
Most loads seem to revolve around 180gr bullets. They say krag throats tend to be long for the original 220, but assuming that the overall length isn't exceeded could you not just load the bullets higher in the case?
Or are there other reasons to load heavier bullets?
1:10 twist should handle 150gr and up.
Lastly who uses Big Game powder to load? The numbers I got from Ramshot are:
Bullet weight: 165-168 grains.
Start load:42.0 grains (2325 –2375 Fps)
Maximum load:45.0grains (2500 –2575 Fps).
Bullet weight: 180grains.
Start load:37.8grains (2225–2300 Fps)
Maximum load:42.0grains (2425–2500 Fps)
Not chasing speed in a krag, so I don't intend to approach maximum loads, but those velocities are pretty impressive
