I recently bought some 30 carbine ammo from Georgia Arms. I didnt notice at the time, but the package was labelled "for M1 Carbine only". I tried to fire the ammo in a Ruger Blackhawk before I realized this, and most of cartridge cases would be stuck in the cylinders so tight after shooting that I had to tap them out with a wooden dowel.

What is different about this ammo than other 30 carbine ammo?

The reason is the cyclinder tapers to hold the round since .30 isn't a rimmed cartridge. The normal expansion from firing causes it to expand a little and that is how it gets stuck. Better ammo has slightly better tolerances. I had some cheap PMC stuff that would get stuck in my .30 OM Blackhawk. Got the Green box Remington stuff and haven't had a problem since. I guess the Remington is really just a 'hair' better than the PMC. :D

The only 30 carbine ammo which I have tried and will not use again is PMC. Primers backed out after firing. Usual ammo now is Winchester White Box or S&B.

The first cartridge I reloaded for was 30 carbine. Required trimming after about 2 reloads. When the cases get a little long, the Blackhawk just will not work since the case headspaces on the mouth and the head scrapes on the frame; I learned alot about primer seating and protrusion in those days, too.

Anyway, that is not a "cannot eject/stuck in chamber problem". I do not shoot enough 30 carbine to reload for it now.
